Hamnet, starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, has just confirmed a release date.
Under the guidance of Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao, an upcoming film is set to bring to life the novel penned by Maggie O’Farrell with the same title.
2020 saw the release of this novel which offers a fresh take on the tale of William Shakespeare’s son, Hamnet, who tragically passed away at a tender age. The narrative primarily explores the profound grief experienced by his parents, especially his father and mother, Agnes.
The movie is set to have a restricted screening in U.S. theaters starting on November 27th, with a broader release slated for December 12th. As of now, there’s no announced UK release date; however, we hope it will also become available around that timeframe.
Alongside O’Farrell, Zhao is credited as a co-writer of the script. Moreover, she joins the likes of Steven Spielberg, Sam Mendes, and others in her role as one of the producers on the project.

In this movie, Mescal portrays the character of the Bard, Buckley is cast as Agnes, Joe Alwyn takes on the role of Bartholomew, and Jacobi Jupe appears as the main character.
Or more concisely:
Mescal plays the Bard, Buckley is Agnes, Joe Alwyn is Bartholomew, and the title character is played by Jacobi Jupe.
Previously, Mescal and Buckley featured in “The Lost Daughter,” a movie directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. However, due to the multiple timeframes in the film, these two actors did not appear together in any scenes.
The movie version of Elena Ferrante’s book titled “The Lost Daughter” featured Olivia Colman portraying Leda Caruso, a university professor and translator, reflecting on her past while enjoying a vacation in Greece.

2021’s movie explores topics such as motherhood, depression in women, and societal pressures, featuring Buckley portraying a youthful depiction of Leda.
In addition to Olivia Colman portraying Leda, the movie “The Lost Daughter” introduces Dakota Johnson as Nina – a young mom met by Leda during vacation time. Jack Farthing takes on the role of Leda’s spouse, Joe, while Ed Harris brings Lyle to life.
In the dark comedy “Wicked Little Letters,” which was influenced by true incidents, the actors Buckley and Colman, who played the same character but at different stages of their lives, would team up to perform.
The film Hamnet is set to premiere in U.S. theaters on November 27, with a wider release scheduled for December 12. As of now, we do not have a confirmed release date for the United Kingdom.
