As a seasoned Strictly Come Dancing viewer with over a decade of watching these performances, I must say that this week’s Quickstep by Formynne Evans and Katya Jones was indeed a delightful watch! Their comedic take on the dance style was refreshing and showcased their unique chemistry.

2024’s Strictly Come Dancing left me absolutely gutted! I, a die-hard fan, found myself among the heartbroken as Paul Merson took his final twirl on the dancefloor. He was the fourth celebrity to bid adieu to the ballroom during Sunday night’s results show.

In the fourth episode’s elimination round, the retired soccer player, aged 56, along with his professional dance partner Karen Hauer, were eliminated from the contest after their dance battle against JB Gill and Amy Dowden.

Both couples performed their routines again – Paul and his partner Karen, 42, performed their Samba to Car Wash by Rose Royce.

Then, JB and his partner Amy, 34, performed their Jive to Hey Ya! by Outkast.

Following their second dance, the judges announced their decisions with Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke opting to keep JB and Amy in the competition.

With a majority of three votes cast for both JB and Amy, it means that Paul and Karen were no longer part of the competition, as they received fewer votes.

Head Judge Shirley Ballas also agreed and said she would have decided to save JB and Amy.

Responding to Tess Daly’s query about his experience on the show, Paul expressed that it was fantastic and recommended anyone he speaks with to participate because it’s simply extraordinary for everyone involved.

‘There’s a Tottenham fan over there called Lincoln and even he’s nice!

‘It’s been amazing, honestly, amazing. I loved every minute of it, I’ve had a great teacher.

“She has been simply fantastic, truly remarkable! I wouldn’t ask for any other coach. Every moment with her has been a joy.” (Paraphrased)

Now that I can dance, I consider myself victorious. Previously, I wasn’t able to dance, but now, I can manage a decent dance. This newfound skill is truly an unexpected and wonderful addition.

Afterward, Karen kindly remarked: “Indeed, it has been a pleasure. I haven’t laughed this hard in ages. My stomach muscles are quite sore. I am incredibly impressed with you. Each week, you’ve consistently shown up and made progress.

You embody the spirit of Strictly, and I truly appreciate the happiness and inspiration you bring. Your dedication and laughter remind us all that with effort, anything can be achieved.

On Sunday, the performance schedule included a fiery Paso Doble dance by Nancy Xu and Dianne Buswell, who captivated the audience with their intense passion.

In a deserted highway’s heat, a dance routine orchestrated by Oti Mabuse took place at a cantina, playing the tune “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” by Santa Esmeralda.

Additionally, Sophie Ellis-Bextor gave a live rendition of her latest single titled “Freedom Of The Night.

The remaining 11 couples will take to the dancefloor next week for the Halloween Special.

On Saturday evening, viewers found themselves agitated following the judges’ assessment of Wynne Evans and Katya Jones’ dance routine.

The Welsh opera star, 52, and professional dancer, 35, took to the Strictly floor again on Saturday for a slapstick comedy-themed Quickstep.

The routine earned the duo an impressive 33 out of 40, with Motsi and Shirley awarding them nines.

However fans were left unimpressed by the score, as they claimed Wynne and Katya had been over marked.

In an effort to leave behind the awkward viral incident, the duo tried to put their best foot forward during the performance, as Katya intentionally moved Wynne’s hand from her waist and declined his offer for a high-five.

After their recent show, fans criticized the judges on X (formerly known as Twitter) for awarding Wynne and Katya a pair of nines.

They wrote: ‘How tf did wynne get NINES like that was a mid routine at best??’; ‘I actually can’t believe wynne got a 9! it was absolutely awful,’;

‘Jesus a 9 for Wynne someone in the Beeb is looking after their own that was 2 from me,’;

Wynne and Katya are heavily critiqued, I understand that the judges would like to keep them, but it doesn’t guarantee they won’t end up in the bottom two.

….to award Wynne and Kataya twos fives as the lowest score for their dance tonight, clearly indicating the competition is biased, seems like an attempt to sway public opinion; however, it’s unlikely to succeed.

“To what extent should you exaggerate when grading Wynne and Katya with a 9, it seems excessive… And it’s only due to their poor behavior from last week that you don’t want people to think is acceptable…

Feeling let down by Wynne during Strictly tonight. Didn’t everyone else notice a slip-up from him at some point? Yet, he managed to receive 9’s! I can’t believe it!

Ahead of their performance, the duo tried to mend their image amid the week of backlash.

However, many viewers felt displeased after watching the couple’s video, finding it excessively sweet and cozy as an attempt to quash gossip about their conflict.

In an exhilarating turn of events, I found myself scaling the majestic peaks of Wales, my heart pounding with uncontainable excitement. My companion was none other than the radiant duo who seemed to be bursting with joy at every step. And then, in a moment that will forever remain etched in my memory, Wynne graciously hoisted Katya onto his back for a playful piggyback ride. The sight of it all left me absolutely enchanted!

They scored a respectable 33 out of 40 for their Quickstep.

Strictly returns on Saturday October 26 at 18.25pm with the results show on Sunday at 19.20pm on BBC One and iPlayer.

Both of this weekend’s episodes are available to watch now via BBC iPlayer.
