Paul McCartney’s Hilarious SNL ‘Snub’ Amid Beatles Medley
During the finale of Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special, which took place on Sunday, Paul McCartney experienced an amusing oversight when he performed several Beatles classics and was not acknowledged following the performance.
82-year-old music legend left spectators astounded when he performed the medley of “Golden Slumbers,” “Carry That Weight,” and “The End” from Abbey Road, with other famous faces joining in during a glittering event.
However, an unforgettable performance by him couldn’t prevent the awkward moment towards the finale of the show, when renowned comedian Martin Short, hailing from Canada, found himself forgetting to acknowledge a talented bass player during his lengthy list of credits.
In a humorous turn of events, Paul felt overlooked during the closing speech, as the prominent figures in the entertainment world gathered, giving hearty shoulder-pats to Martin, aged 74, to signal his presence.
After being a long-time SNL member, he quipped, “And Paul!” to the delight of his co-stars. Eventually, he extended gratitude towards the show’s originator and producer, Lorne Michaels, who is now 80 years old.
As a devoted follower, I joined hands with my companions in a heartfelt farewell pose, while Paul, resplendent in a black waistcoat and crisp white shirt, warmly shook Lorne’s hand.

Audience members who watched the special broadcast were given an exhilarating rendition of the last three songs from one of the Beatles’ most renowned albums, with Martin presenting the legendary artist, twelve years after their collaboration on SNL in December 2012.
Famous personalities like Tom Hanks and Sabrina Carpenter joined in with applause as Paul moved from his place at the piano to the center stage, strumming the guitar.
At the event, Ryan Reynolds playfully jabbed at his wife Blake Lively over her recent legal issues before she graced the stage for the first time in two months, creating a moment that was less comfortable but still captivating.
Instead of Tina Fey and Amy Pohler, it was Ryan who rose from the crowd along with Blake, asking: “May I pose a query?
As a lifestyle expert, I might rephrase that as: “When someone asked me, ‘Hey Ryan Reynolds, how’s life?’, I jokingly replied, ‘Things are fantastic, any particular reason?’ This was a playful reference to the many news headlines about the challenging filming process of the much-anticipated movie, It Ends with Us.
At the celebration marking the 50th year of the well-known NBC program, a variety of popular stars like Eddie Murphy, Kristen Wiig, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Bill Murray, Leslie Jones, David Spade, and Jon Lovitz (former SNL cast members) were also in attendance.
A number of well-known stars graced the red carpet for the prestigious event in Gotham: Kim Kardashian, Aubrey Plaza, Cher, Steve Martin, Steven Spielberg, Kevin Costner, Jason Momoa, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Paul Simon, to name a few.
Following numerous new sketches starring comedy legends, the special showcased some jokes and guest appearances that didn’t age well.

Towards the finale of the program, there was a segment that showcased an old clip featuring Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who was on SNL years ago. At that time, he was imprisoned, waiting for his court trial concerning sex trafficking and racketeering allegations. However, it is important to note that he strongly denies all these charges.
In one of his sketches, the hip-hop tycoon, aged 55, also referenced disgraced artist and convicted sex trafficker R. Kelly. This allusion enabled the show to flashback to a 2013 episode where the musician collaborated with Lady Gaga on a musical performance.
Tom Hanks drew upon all his solemnity and dignity as he introduced the segment, leading viewers to believe it was going to be a tribute honoring the departed.
In reflecting on our triumphs over the past half-century, it’s important that we pause to remember and pay tribute to the many cherished members of SNL who were unfortunately taken from us prematurely, he said solemnly.
I’m referring to the Saturday Night Live characters and skits that no longer seem appropriate. Despite the fact that some of the characters, dialects, and what we might now term cultural wigs were undeniably offensive, you all found them amusing.
He went on to say, “If there’s someone who deserves to step out of the limelight, isn’t it you, my viewers? A thought worth considering. Moving forward, let me present to you this tribute.
As a devoted admirer, I must share that my mention in the recent broadcast fell under the category of ‘challenging guests’, stemming from an episode back in 2010, which coincidentally was also graced by Robert De Niro during his tenure as host for SNL’s 50th anniversary.
The skit at hand showcased Robert dressing up as Andy Samberg’s mother’s character, and it unfolded a scenario where Diddy was attempting to record in the studio. However, he became smitten by Robert’s acting, leading ultimately to the iconic boxer Sylvester Stallone, famously known for Raging Bull, grindning on Diddy.

As an over-the-moon fan, I can’t help but share my thoughts on the seamless transition in the clip that led to Diddy’s side-splittingly unfortunate remark: “Don’t judge a book by its cover…my man is like R. Kelly —” It had me chuckling!
Then the show cut to R. Kelly grinning next to Lady Gaga at the end of a 2013 episode.
Apart from them, there were also other challenging guests, a fact humorously pointed out by John Mulaney earlier when he quipped about Saturday Night Live having “two suspected killers” as hosts – presumably referring to O.J. Simpson and Robert Blake.
In a humorous portrayal, Rob Schneider donned a traditional Mexican outfit including a mustache, sombrero, and poncho, during his discussion on NAFTA. Meanwhile, Dana Carvey took on the role of an overtly amorous Italian waiter.
Adrien Brody, an Oscar nominee, portrayed a well-known character in Jamaican style that he utilized when introducing Sean Paul. This character was showcased again, and the label given to it was just ‘Wow.’
In some sketches, performers wore blackface or had their skin darkened; however, Saturday Night Live chose to pixelate those parts of the images instead.
In a less polished, yet passionate, fan’s perspective: Back then, the show didn’t hesitate to casually toss around racial epithets, as evidently demonstrated by that notorious scene where Chevy Chase and the legendary Richard Pryor were exchanging those hurtful words.
