Paul McCartney and John Lennon’s Quarrymen bandmate Len Garry tragically passes away aged 84

Len Garry, a former bandmate of Paul McCartney and John Lennon in The Quarrymen, has died at the age of 84, his family has confirmed.

The guitarist played with McCartney and Lennon in a rock and roll band during the 1950s. That group later became The Beatles in 1960.

Len, diagnosed with dementia in 2024, was briefly hospitalized with a chest infection before being allowed home, where he sadly passed away.

Len Garry passed away peacefully at home this morning, after being told he had only a few hours left to live. His daughter, Jane, said she immediately requested he be brought home to spend his final moments there.

Thankfully, the doctor gave me the okay to travel with my dad in the ambulance so I could bring him home. It meant the world to all of us – my mom, my sister, my brother-in-law, and me – to be right there with him, holding his hand and sharing how much we loved and admired him as he peacefully passed away. Those final moments, being together as a family, are something I’ll always cherish.

‘I love you Dad and I will miss you Dad for the rest of my life. I’m beyond devastated’.

Oh my gosh, can you believe it? Lennon actually went to Liverpool Institute High School for Boys! That’s where he first met McCartney, which is just… everything! They immediately started playing music together, forming this band called the Quarrymen. They were so young, playing at school dances and these little local skiffle contests. It was the very beginning of something amazing, and I just can’t get over the fact that it all started there!
