Paul Insect’s Cut-Out Eyes Take Over Underdogs Gallery

Summary

  • The presentation will highlight 22 new and original works that feature Insect’s signature collage-style compositions
  • Accompanying the exhibition is the launch of two limited editions inspired by original works from the show

The Underdogs Gallery located in Lisbon is preparing to debut the first standalone exhibit by celebrated contemporary artist, Paul Insect. Titled “Broken Vision“, this event will showcase 22 fresh, original creations that exemplify Insect’s unique collage-inspired artworks, which seamlessly combine abstract and figurative elements in a burst of vibrant colors.

1990s graffiti artist Insect played a significant role in Britain’s scene, creating a unique district visual language characterized by portraits featuring cut-out eyes, intricate layering of bold shapes, and caricature-like human characteristics. For his exhibition titled ‘Broken Vision,’ Insect will unveil fresh depictions of his iconic masked characters in paintings inspired by traditional techniques like dotwork, photocopies, and screen-printing. This work echoes the visual appeal of posters and graphic reproduction, as described by the gallery.

At the same time as the exhibition, we’re introducing two special limited editions, inspired by pieces from the show. These editions can be bought starting September 3 only on Underdogs’ website, along with an online viewing room. The official launch event for Broken Vision, will take place on September 5 at the location mentioned below.
