Paul Hardcastle shared that he had a conversation with his son just before the accident that took his life, and described the devastating moment he learned the news from the police.
Musician Paul, age 68, shared the sad news on Instagram Monday night that his 35-year-old son, also named Paul, had died.
Paul’s father said he talked to his son just five minutes before the crash. Their son was on his way to pick up his saxophone from his dad’s house because he was running late for a flight to Greece.
Paul shared in an Instagram video on Friday that someone told him, “I’ll get back to you in five minutes.” However, they didn’t call him back within that timeframe.
Paul Senior described the heartbreaking moment the police informed him of his son’s death, becoming emotional as he remembered that terrible day.
He said: ‘I’ve lost a lovely son, and he’s lost his life, and could have easily all been avoided.

Everyone makes choices, and sometimes those choices lead to negative consequences. So, if you’re considering taking shortcuts or making risky decisions, it’s simply not worth the potential trouble.
I’ll never forget when the police came to my door. I actually felt bad for the officers – there were two of them, and they were very polite. They asked if they could come in to share some news. I let them in, and they told me, with great sadness, that my son had been in an accident and hadn’t survived.
Paul teared up as he continued: ‘When you hear that, wow, nothing’s worth doing it for.
If you’re considering pursuing this, just don’t. It’s not worth the effort. Please cancel your plans and do something else. I don’t care what you choose, but whatever you do, avoid this particular path. While I won’t say you’re doomed to fail, the chances of success are very slim, and the consequences of trying can be harsh – as has unfortunately happened.
‘So rest in peace Paul Jr, love dad.’
Paul shared that his son, Paul Jr., was riding his dirt bike to visit him because he had a flat tire on his car.
Paul Snr. said the motorcycle wasn’t street legal, which is why police briefly followed his son before the crash that killed him.
Paul Sr. announced the sad news about his son with a touching Instagram post that included a childhood photo.

It is with great sadness that I share the news of my son, Paul Hardcastle Jnr’s, passing. He tragically died in a motorcycle accident earlier today. Rest in peace, my son. – Love, Dad.
Paul Jnr was also a musician and was known for playing the saxophone and DJing.
Police reported earlier this week that Paul Jnr died in a motorcycle accident after he didn’t stop when officers signaled him to do so.
Officers pursued a motorbike on Monday in Ongar, Essex, after it failed to stop, police said.
A motorcyclist in his 30s died after a collision with a van. Police reported the crash happened at the scene.
The van driver was arrested regarding the incident, but has since been released while the investigation continues.
Essex Police have passed the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), and they will be investigating the incident independently.
He featured on his father’s 2008 album, Hardcastle 5, contributing to the final track, “Take 1.” He also collaborated on the 2022 release, Hardcastle X.
I’ll never forget when Paul Sr. released ’19’ back in 1985. It was an incredibly powerful song about Vietnam veterans, and it really resonated with everyone – it actually hit number one and stayed there for five whole weeks! It’s a song that’s stuck with me ever since.
A highly regarded electronic music producer, keyboardist, and composer, he gained recognition in 1986 with a remix of Hiroshima’s ‘One Wish’.
In that same year, Paul’s song “The Wizard” became the theme tune for BBC’s Top Of The Pops, playing at the start of the show’s weekly chart countdown from 1986 to 1991.
