Many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are looking forward to 2026, which will bring two new Marvel films: Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. But there’s also a Disney+ series that could be a highlight: Vision Quest, bringing back Paul Bettany as Vision.
We’ll reconnect with the character in a new series next year. While the future of Vision within the MCU remains largely unknown, Paul Bettany recently made a humorous comment about his hopes: earning a substantial amount of money. At L.A. Comic Con over the weekend (as reported by Tribune), Bettany was asked about his personal wishes for the next phase of the MCU, and the actor jokingly…
A massive paycheck
Bettany seems to be enjoying himself, and there’s likely a genuine element to that. Films predicted to be big box office hits generally offer the highest salaries. While actors might not prioritize money above all else when deciding on a project, it’s unrealistic to think it doesn’t factor into their choices.

Disney+: starting at $9.99/month with ads
Disney+ is where you can find all things Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Paul Bettany’s time as Vision. A new plan with ads is available for $9.99 per month. You can remove the ads for $15.99 a month, or save 16% by paying $159.99 upfront for a year. View Deal
Bettany isn’t the first to point out the financial benefits of working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s common for actors to earn substantial paychecks for big-budget films, which then allows them to pursue other, potentially more fulfilling projects, even if those don’t offer the same level of income. Often, this financial freedom is what enables actors to take on roles they’re truly passionate about, regardless of the pay scale.
The last time we saw Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his body – rebuilt and completely white – flew off into the sky at the end of WandaVision, with all of his memories restored by Wanda’s magic. Although we know some plot details for the new show – like the fact that Todd Stashwick will play an assassin targeting Vision – Bettany shared some of the series’ central themes, saying…
This is about how trauma can be passed down through families-specifically, the relationships between fathers and sons. It explores how people might avoid acknowledging their pain or their true selves, and the process of accepting who they are and understanding their experiences. It’s about coming to terms with your identity and history.
It might seem strange that Vision, who was initially created from different pieces of technology, has a storyline focusing on the emotional wounds passed down through families and the bonds between fathers and sons. However, this actually offers a clue as to how a central figure in Vision Quest will connect to the overall narrative.
James Spader will be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Vision Quest, once again playing Ultron. This marks his first time reprising the role since Avengers: Age of Ultron. Although Ultron was thought to be defeated at the end of that film – destroyed by Vision – this return makes sense because Ultron is essentially a father figure to Vision. We don’t yet know the specifics of how he’ll be brought back, but this explains why he’s returning.
Although Paul Bettany wasn’t included in the initial large cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday, many believe the Vision Quest story will premiere before Doomsday. This makes it likely the two stories will be connected. If that happens, Bettany will almost certainly receive a substantial payment.
