Patti Yasutake dead at 70: Beef and Star Trek actress passes away after cancer battle
As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for the arts, I am deeply saddened by the passing of Patti Yasutake, a talented actress who left an indelible mark on both television and film. Throughout her illustrious career spanning over three decades, she captivated audiences with her remarkable performances, most notably as Nurse Alyssa Ogawa on Star Trek: The Next Generation and more recently as Fumi Nakai in Beef.
70-year-old Patti Yasutake, best known for her role in the Emmy-winning miniseries ‘Beef’, passed away following a struggle with cancer.
On August 5, the esteemed actress, who had many years of experience, passed away serenely, with her cherished companions and relatives by her side, following a prolonged struggle against cancer.
Her longtime manager and friend Kyle Fritz confirmed the news to Deadline on Tuesday.
Apart from appearing as a lead in a highly praised TV show, she also brought Nurse Alyssa Ogawa to life, a beloved character in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

She later reprised the role in films Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek Generations.
In her final TV appearance, she arguably had the most prominent role, portraying the demanding character of George’s mother, Fumi Nakai.
In the series, Joseph Lee portrayed the role of Amy Lau’s stay-at-home husband, who is of Japanese descent and is a sculptor by profession, played by him.
In the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, our ten-episode production garnered a total of eight awards. Among these were victories in the categories of Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and notable acting accolades for both Wong and Steven Yeun.
The series also won all three categories it was nominated for at the 81st Golden Globe Awards held in January, specifically the Best Limited Series or Television Film category.
Kyle, who is Patti’s manager, shared with Deadline that Patti was the very first client he worked with when he started in this business over three decades back.
‘Each day spent working alongside her was a joy, and I’ll deeply miss her vivaciousness, skills, and determination. However, what I’ll cherish the most is our friendship.’
