Patti Newton has revealed she is recovering in hospital after undergoing major surgery.

In an Instagram post, the 80-year-old woman showed a picture of herself hugging her grandson Alby, who was with her in a hospital bed.

She disclosed that she underwent a complete hip replacement surgery and, while in recovery at a hospital in Melbourne, she’s doing well and feeling good.

Patti shared, “I’ve had a complete hip replacement, and I’m doing great! A big thank-you goes out to everyone at Epworth Hospital and my incredible surgeon.

Patti took a brief break from Grease: The Musical in January, following her contraction of Covid-19.

In a recent Instagram post, I shared with my followers that I’ll unfortunately have to skip an upcoming series of performances in Sydney due to unavoidable circumstances.

‘So sorry to be missing the previews for Grease,’ the showbiz legend wrote in her caption.

‘Unfortunately Covid has hit me again. Looking forward to being back next week,’ she added.

The image showed Patti all dressed up for her role as Miss Lynch in the popular musical production.

Previously, Patti had contracted COVID-19 just as she was set to begin her role in the Melbourne production of Grease: The Musical in December 2023.

In a heartfelt message to her followers, the celebrated figure took to Instagram, sharing an image where she was wrapped under a blanket, revealing only her legs.

As we step into the vibrant year of 2024, I extend my warmest wishes for a fantastic journey ahead! Though I’ve been touched by the ongoing pandemic, I remain hopeful and excited to witness the opening night of the Grease cast. Can’t wait to reconnect with everyone soon!

After her husband Bert Newton passed away in 2021 at the age of 83, Patti decided to revive her career in show business as a means of dealing with her grief.

Before taking on the role of Grease, she immersed herself deeply in playing a lead character in the stage performance of Mary Poppins during its tour.

For an astonishing 47 years, Patti has been married to Bert. She shared with the Herald Sun that participating in the hit musical was one of the most rewarding experiences for her personally, as it aided her in the healing process.

She expressed that her deceased husband, Bert, will forever remain her eternal love, and the passing of him in 2021 continues to leave a lingering shadow over her.

‘Bert will always be the love of my life. I’ll never stop thinking about him,’ the performer said.

Afterward, she shared some of the methods she uses to preserve the memory of Bert, who sadly passed away on October 30, 2021, after a prolonged illness.

While Bert was at Epworth Hospital, he possessed a small wooden cross. This item had been gifted to him by one of my friends. Whenever he could, Bert would lift it off the tray and give it a kiss,” she shared.

He would hold onto it for about a minute before setting it aside. I bring it along with me to the theater, and prior to each performance, I retrieve it and give it a kiss.

‘I hold it to my heart as he did and say, “Come on Bert, we’re on.” He comes on stage with me.’
