Patti Newton reveals she’s unwell as she pulls out of Grease: The Musical AGAIN amid health woes
As a dedicated follower of Patti Newton’s illustrious career, it is always a bittersweet moment to see her temporarily step away from the stage due to Covid. At 79, she has proven time and again that age is just a number when it comes to passion and resilience.
Her life experience, particularly since the loss of her beloved husband Bert Newton, has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Yet, she continues to find solace in the world of showbiz, much like how she found comfort in her wooden cross that reminds her of Bert’s enduring love. It’s heartwarming to see such strength and determination, even when faced with adversity.
I can’t help but chuckle at the thought of Patti picking up that wooden cross before a show, whispering “Come on Bert, we’re on,” and feeling his spirit right there with her. It’s like she’s turning the theatre into their own little dance floor, where Bert can twirl her around one last time.
As for her family matters, it’s no secret that families can be as complex as a Shakespearean drama. I hope and pray that Patti manages to bring her son Matthew back into the fold. After all, isn’t family like spaghetti – you can’t really have just one piece? It would be a shame if we missed out on seeing more of the Newton clan’s hilarious antics on stage or off!
Patti Newton has temporarily pulled out of Grease: The Musical after being struck down with Covid.
On Sunday evening, the 79-year-old shared on Instagram that she wouldn’t be able to attend several performances of the show in Sydney this week, as planned.
‘So sorry to be missing the previews for Grease’ the showbiz legend wrote in her caption.
‘Unfortunately Covid has hit me again. Looking forward to being back next week’ she added.
In the picture, Patti was seen elegantly attired, ready to play Miss Lynch in the widely acclaimed stage performance.
Her celebrity friend were quick to offer their support to the veteran entertainer in the comments.
Chrissie Swan asked if she should bring over some chicken soup.
‘Rest up please – hope you’re on the fast mend’ added actor and singer Tim Campbell.
In December 2023, Patti had just been scheduled to begin performing in the Melbourne production of “Grease: The Musical”, but unfortunately, she was stricken with Covid at that time.
At that particular moment, the beloved figure in the entertainment industry conveyed heart-rending information to her followers via Instagram, where she displayed her legs under a cover like a blanket.
She wished everyone a fantastic 2024, despite the challenges brought by Covid. At the same time, she sent her best wishes to the cast of Grease for their opening performance. Looking forward to reuniting with everyone soon.
After the passing of her cherished spouse Bert Newton in October 2021, aged 83, Patti decided to restart her entertainment career as a means to find solace and move forward.
Before moving on to “Grease,” she immersed herself deeply in a prominent part for the touring stage version of “Mary Poppins.
For an astounding 47 years, Patti has been married to Bert. She shared with the Herald Sun that participating in the hit musical was among the most beneficial things she’s ever done for herself, as it aided her in the healing process.
In a heartfelt confession, I’ve found myself unable to escape the shadow of my beloved Bert, who departed from this world in 2021. To this day, he remains the one and only love that has truly captured my heart.
‘Bert will always be the love of my life. I’ll never stop thinking about him,’ the performer said.
Afterward, she shared some methods she uses to keep Bert’s spirit alive, as he passed away on October 30, 2021, after a prolonged illness.
While Bert was at Epworth Hospital, he possessed a small wooden cross which a friend had gifted to him. He would often lift it off its tray and give it a kiss, as my companion shared.
He would hold onto it for about a minute before setting it aside. I bring it along to the theater, and prior to each performance, I retrieve it and give it a kiss.
‘I hold it to my heart as he did and say, “Come on Bert, we’re on.” He comes on stage with me.’
A recent report indicates that Patti made efforts to bring her son, Matthew Newton, closer to his sister, Lauren, towards the end of last year, as she worked diligently on this task.
According to Woman’s Day, the distressed actor, currently residing in the United States, has been mostly disconnected from his Australian family. Patti was reportedly trying hard to bring her son back home before Christmas.
According to a source, it’s known that Patti makes efforts to stay in touch with Matthew, yet she doesn’t always receive responses from him.
‘It is sad that she has come to terms with this level of contact.’
Part of the issue is an ongoing rift between Matthew, 47, and his sister, the magazine alleges.
The source asserts that they believe the Newton siblings may not have a lot of interaction or perhaps none at all due to alleged feelings of jealousy among them.
