Choosing Bad Bunny for the Super Bowl LX halftime show has sparked some debate. Some people may not realize he’s Puerto Rican – and Puerto Rico is a US territory – or they might be surprised he performs primarily in Spanish. This is ironic considering the United States was built on a foundation of diverse cultures and languages.
It’s perfectly okay if you don’t enjoy Bad Bunny’s music – taste is personal. However, if you’re going to comment on him, particularly his Super Bowl performance, it’s important to be mindful and informed about what you’re saying.
This applies to everyone connected with the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, the teams playing in the game. So, it could be awkward if someone from either team asks the players or coaches who they think might appear on stage with Bad Bunny during his performance.
Patriots’ Mike Vrabel might have just given you a reason to cheer for the Seahawks in Super Bowl 60 with his Bad Bunny answer
The New England Patriots recently asked their players a question and shared the responses on X (formerly Twitter). Some of the answers made sense, but one player simply said, “I can’t watch it,” which is understandable since he’ll be with the team in the locker room during the game. Another player’s response was surprisingly, “Rod Wave.”
Okay, so someone suggested Cardi B as the halftime performer, and it actually got a huge laugh. Apparently, she’s dating Stefon Diggs, who plays for the Patriots, so people were joking she’d probably be at the game anyway – why not put her on stage at halftime? It’s a funny idea, honestly.
The problem would be that she might be emotionally involved in the game, of course. She should be.
Okay, so things got a little weird after that play. Coach Vrabel from the Patriots actually walked over and asked if the other team always sends someone out to talk to the refs. The guy from the other team said yeah, and Vrabel just deadpanned, “Like Morgan Wallen?” It was a really strange moment, honestly.
Morgan Wallen has faced accusations of using racial stereotypes in the past. While those claims may not be true, if Coach Vrabel immediately thought of Wallen, he probably understands the singer’s history with similar controversies and how he’s responded to them before.
Mike Vrabel likely didn’t put much thought into his answer, and it showed. Or, perhaps he did think it through, which would be even more concerning. Bad Bunny’s political views are vastly different from most musical artists.
Coach Vrabel leads a diverse team, but his job requires him to focus on the group as a whole, not just individual players. His own beliefs may not necessarily align with the need to foster unity and collaboration.
Essentially, Patriots coach Mike Vrabel may have hinted that the Seattle Seahawks are the team to support in Super Bowl LX if you’re still deciding who to root for.
