Patrick Schwarzenegger explains why “uncomfortable” White Lotus incest scene was “fun” to film

Actor Patrick Schwarzenegger, known for his role in The White Lotus, discussed the reasons behind finding the awkward incest scene enjoyable to shoot.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, playing the role of Saxon Ratliff in the third season of the popular HBO series, has found himself at the center of one of this season’s most debated plotlines.

In the fifth episode, Saxon and his sibling Lochlan, portrayed by Sam Nivola, joined a Full Moon Festival. Following their Thai party escapade with Chelsea and Chloe, the siblings shared a brotherly kiss.

During episode 6, we saw glimpses of the past night’s occurrences in flashback scenes. These scenes depicted the brothers involved in an intimate relationship, which Chloe disclosed had progressed significantly further than what was initially suggested.

Speaking candidly about the tough narrative, Schwarzenegger shared with C Magazine that he jumped at the chance to play this role without hesitation, finding it enjoyable to stretch his acting abilities.

He mentioned that he’s portraying a character, implying that when you see him in “The White Lotus”, you can expect Mike to challenge the norms. This is why he’s considered a creative genius.

He added: “For me as an actor, the scenes that make me squirm with discomfort are the ones I enjoy the most since they offer the greatest test. I’m not implying that particular scene was enjoyable, but there’s something thrilling about stepping out of your comfort zone and facing tough situations because that’s where growth happens.

Discussing their shared filming experiences, Schwarzenegger mentioned that working on intimate scenes with Nivola was not challenging because they had developed a strong bond over the course of several months.

In an interview about their intimate scenes, Schwarzenegger explained that it wasn’t tough because he and Nivola had grown close during their filming sessions over many months.

In front of the camera, our entire TV family – Sam, myself, Jason, Parker, and Sarah Catherine – collaborated, socialized, even shared meals, fostering a strong family bond,” Schwarzenegger explained. “I grew extremely fond of each member and still maintain a very close relationship with them to this day.

When asked about his famous family’s response to the show, Schwarzenegger expressed uncertainty and admitted feeling nervous. He explained that he’s apprehensive not only about how they might react but also about the general public’s reaction since putting oneself out there in a vulnerable manner often invites judgment. However, he trusts Mike’s vision to steer the story effectively.
