On the recent installment of The Late Late Show, Patrick Kielty conveyed a heartfelt tribute to his mother, a week since she passed away.
Last weekend, the television personality’s mother Mary passed away at the age of 88 and was buried in County Down on Monday. Patrick, looking visibly upset, carried his mother’s coffin through their hometown as it made its way to the burial site.
On Friday, Patrick resumed his talk show with an emotional homage, his voice quivering as he shared with the audience how much Mary enjoyed watching him on television.
‘When you’re called Patrick, St Patrick’s Day is always special, and the person I have to thank for that and so much more is my mum,’ he said.
‘Sadly, we lost her last week and I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took care of her and took care of our family this week.’
He mentioned that his mother had been a devoted fan of the show, and then joked that despite him landing the role, she continued to watch it enthusiastically.

‘In over 50 years, Mary never missed a Late Late Show and there was no way she’d want me to miss this one for her tonight.
Here’s my suggestion: “I am filled with pride as I speak now. This moment is dedicated to you, Mary. So, welcome to The Late Late Show!
On the Thursday preceding Patrick’s passing, he aired an episode on RTÉ’s main television program.
Patrick’s wife This Morning host Cat Deely was notably absent as Mary was laid to rest on Monday in County Down.
The spokesperson explained to TopMob that Cat couldn’t attend the burial because she wanted to be with her two children as they grieve the loss of their grandmother.
Patrick has previously spoken movingly of his love for his mother and the unique connection she enjoyed with him and his siblings.
Not long after taking over The Late Late Show he revealed how Mary still offered to do his laundry for him.

He said: ‘I think Irish mummies never really understand what age their youngsters actually are.
As a devoted follower, I often receive inquiries such as, “Is there any laundry to do?” To which I respond, “No, not at the moment. I’ve already taken care of it, and I’m 53 years old.
Hailing from 1940, Mary found herself as the youngest among five siblings – four sisters and a brother. She spent her childhood on a farm nestled close to Annaclone.
Throughout her lifetime, she maintained a profound connection with each of her three sons, who offered heartfelt eulogies at her funeral service.
