Patrick Dempsey’s Memory of a Killer Rises in Streaming After Renewal

Patrick Dempsey is famous for playing Dr. Derek Shepherd, nicknamed “McDreamy,” on Grey’s Anatomy, and Robert Philip in Disney’s Enchanted. He now stars in a new crime thriller as a hitman who may be developing Alzheimer’s, and the show is quickly gaining popularity on streaming platforms.

According to FlixPatrol, the TV series Memory of a Killer has become a hit on Hulu in the U.S., climbing to the No. 8 spot among the most popular shows. The first season, which premiered on January 25, 2026, with 10 episodes, concluded on April 6, 2026.

I’ve been totally hooked on this series, and it’s amazing to see it’s a hit elsewhere too! I’ve heard it’s really popular in places like Argentina, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Uruguay – even reaching the top 5 in some of those countries! Plus, it’s been one of the most-watched shows on Prime Video in Ireland and the UK, which isn’t surprising given how good it is.

In addition to Patrick Dempsey as Angelo, the film Memory of a Killer features Michael Imperioli as Dutch, an actor well-known for his other roles. Richard Harmon plays Joe, Dutch’s nephew, who assists Angelo on his assignments. Odeya Rush stars as Angelo’s daughter, Maria, and Daniel David Stewart plays Maria’s husband, Jeff. Peter Gadiot plays Dave, a police officer in the film.

Memory of a Killer Is an Adaptation of a Novel

The movie Memory of a Killer is based on the Belgian novel De zaak Alzheimer. This isn’t the first time the story has been adapted for film; a Belgian thriller called The Alzheimer Case was released in 2003, and a Hollywood remake came out in 2022.

The show centers on Angelo Doyle, a professional hitman who carefully balances two separate worlds. He maintains a normal family life while concealing his dangerous job from his loved ones, and keeps his family a secret from his colleagues. Adding to his challenges, Angelo also cares for his brother, who is living with Alzheimer’s disease in a care facility.

The situation gets much harder when Angelo begins to show symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. He finds it increasingly difficult to maintain his double life while also concealing his worsening condition. Then, when someone attempts to harm his daughter, Angelo seeks revenge, potentially revealing his secrets in the process.

Memory of a Killer Wasn’t a Hit with Critics

Critics weren’t impressed with the Patrick Dempsey crime thriller, Memory of a Killer. While reviews were mixed, audiences seem to enjoy it more – it has a 50% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but a 73% audience score.

Keith Phipps of TV Guide noted that while Memory of a Killer shows potential, it’s currently not very memorable. However, many critics complimented Dempsey’s acting, with John Anderson of the Wall Street Journal calling him ‘solid’ and praising the show’s well-placed action sequences as giving it momentum.

The show is particularly strong thanks to the talented actors. It unfolds slowly, carefully establishing its atmosphere, characters, and clues about Angelo’s difficulties. While Memory of a Killer successfully held viewers’ attention, a second season could potentially impress critics as well.

Memory of a Killer is available to stream on Hulu in the United States.
