Patrick Dempsey’s thriller, Memory of a Killer, has quickly become popular on UK streaming after being added to Prime Video last month. In the movie, Dempsey, known for Grey’s Anatomy, plays Angelo Doyle, a man living a risky double life that leads to dangerous outcomes.
Angelo leads a double life: by day, he’s a quiet photocopier salesman in upstate New York, but at night, he’s a dangerous hitman. When he starts losing his memory – mirroring his brother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s – Angelo must protect his family while also grappling with a newfound sense of morality.
The story gets even more complicated when Angelo begins to suspect his wife’s death wasn’t accidental. After someone targets his pregnant daughter, Maria, it becomes clear that his two worlds are colliding.

Angelo needs to figure out who is threatening his family, and he starts by looking back at the people he’s harmed in the past – a list that’s quite extensive. Memory of a Killer is a story about a man finding his morality, even as his memory fades.
The crime drama launched globally in January and February and has quickly become popular with audiences. It’s currently the seventh most-watched show on Prime Video in the UK, according to FlixPatrol.

Joining Dempsey in Memory of a Killer is Michael Imperioli, known from The Sopranos and The White Lotus, who plays Dutch – a seemingly friendly man who secretly runs a criminal operation out of his restaurant and is a close friend of Angelo.
This series is inspired by Jef Geeraerts’ 1985 novel, The Alzheimer Case. The story was originally a Belgian film released in 2003 with the same title. More recently, a new version called Memory, starring Liam Neeson, came out in 2022.
I’ve been keeping an eye on the reviews for Memory of a Killer, and so far, it’s looking really good! Even USA Today said that the acting from Dempsey and Imperioli is strong enough to make you want to keep watching after the first two nights – that’s a great sign!
I read a review on Decider, and they pretty much agreed with me – Memory of a Killer could really do something different with the thriller genre. They think because the main character, Dempsey, is dealing with memory loss, it opens up possibilities you don’t usually see in these kinds of stories.

Dempsey recently revealed he had hoped his Grey’s Anatomy colleague, Eric Dane, would portray his brother on the show. Sadly, Dane passed away last month at the age of 53 after being diagnosed with ALS in April of the previous year.
It’s just been so tough since hearing about my friend. I spoke to Metro and explained that while we knew he was sick, we really weren’t prepared for how fast things moved. His agent had contacted us, and we were all trying to figure things out, hoping for the best. It’s just… shocking how quickly the disease took over.
Memory of a Killer is available to stream now on Prime Video.
