With horror films like 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Primate, and Ready or Not 2 already making waves this year, the recently released trailer for Passenger suggests it will be another successful addition to the genre.
The trailer begins with the same footage shown in movie theaters earlier this year – a road trip taking a terrifying turn. It then reveals more of the story, which focuses on a young couple (Lou Llobell and Jacob Scipio) who see a deadly car crash.
The characters quickly realize they’re being relentlessly pursued by a terrifying figure, seemingly connected to the accident. Melissa Leo plays a character who seems to know more than she lets on, offering only cryptic warnings – she ominously asks, “You didn’t stop, did you?” – fitting the classic horror trope of someone who understands the danger but can only offer veiled advice.
She concludes the trailer – which features a growing number of disturbing scenes – by saying, “No one can escape their past.” You can watch the trailer for Passenger if you’re brave enough, but be warned: it might make you rethink your next road trip!

He’s also told Bloody Disgusting that this new film is his scariest yet, and considering how frightening The Autopsy of Jane Doe was, that’s a bold claim.
I’m really proud of how the movie has been received. We showed it to test audiences several times, and it was fantastic to see them react with excitement, jump out of their seats, and genuinely enjoy the experience from beginning to end. I’m very pleased with the final result.

I really wanted to try a different approach with how I directed this movie, especially when it came to building scenes. There are actually some moments I’m super proud of that we didn’t even show in the trailer!
Bring it on.
Passenger is released in cinemas on 22 May.
