Paris Jackson reunites with mom Debbie Rowe in rare family photo amid legal war with Michael Jackson’s estate

Paris Jackson surprised her fans on Friday by posting a rare photo of herself with her mother, Debbie Rowe.

As a lifestyle observer, I’ve always found Paris Jackson’s story fascinating. Born in 1998 to Michael Jackson and his nurse, Debbie Rowe, her arrival was immediately met with a lot of public scrutiny. It wasn’t a typical family situation, and the unusual circumstances surrounding her parents’ relationship meant she grew up in the spotlight from day one.

As a lifestyle expert, I remember when Michael and Debbie welcomed their first child, Prince Michael Jackson I, back in ’97. Though their marriage didn’t last – they divorced in ’99 – their family continued to grow. Later, in 2002, Michael became a father again to Prince Michael ‘Bigi’ Jackson II, who was lovingly known as Blanket, and was born through a private surrogacy.

When Michael Jackson unexpectedly passed away in 2009, his daughter Paris, who was eleven years old at the time, and her brothers and sisters had to cope with growing up in the public eye without their father.

Paris, 27, shared a glimpse of her close relationship with her mother, Rowe, 67, on Instagram Friday. She posted two heartwarming photos, a moment that comes while she’s still dealing with legal issues regarding her late father’s estate.

The photos show the couple looking relaxed and happy, exchanging smiles. Paris simply captioned the pictures with a single word: ‘Lately’.

Paris’s relationship with her mom hasn’t followed a typical Hollywood family script.

Following her parents’ divorce in 1999, Rowe relinquished primary custody of her children, and Paris and her brother Prince went to live with their father.

Rowe largely disappeared from her daughter’s life until Paris was a teenager, and that’s why the actress has said she didn’t feel like she had a mother figure while growing up.

She told Rolling Stone that growing up, she didn’t have a relationship with her mother. She only began to wonder about her once she understood that men cannot have babies.

Following Michael Jackson’s passing in 2009, his daughter Paris, who was eleven years old at the time, and her brothers moved in with their grandmother, Katherine Jackson.

Since Rowe had given up her rights as a parent, Paris didn’t meet her mother again until she was a teenager.

Paris has openly said that her connection developed gradually, and wasn’t like a typical mother-daughter bond.

She described her friendship with her as relaxed and easygoing on Red Table Talk. They have a lot in common, like a shared appreciation for country and folk music, and people have even commented on how much they resemble each other.

Paris maintains that even though her father wasn’t around much, she always felt loved – she just relied on other people for support.

Growing up, Paris Jackson relied heavily on the women around her – including her grandmother, aunts like Janet Jackson, and her nannies – for support, especially after her father unexpectedly passed away.

She became very close with her brothers, Prince, age 29, and Prince Michael “Bigi” Jackson II, age 24.

The reconciliation with Rowe has had its emotional moments.

When Debbie received her cancer diagnosis in 2016, Paris supported her throughout the treatment process, which significantly changed and strengthened their relationship.

As many of you know, my mom is my biggest inspiration. When she was going through a tough time recently, I shared how much I admire her strength on social media. I simply wrote, ‘I’m a fighter because she’s a fighter. Love you, Mom.’ It really sums up how I feel – her resilience is everything to me, and I wanted everyone to know how much I love and appreciate her.

The model has openly discussed the difficult emotions that come with being Michael Jackson’s daughter.

In past interviews, she’s talked openly about how her father shaped her identity.

She shared with NME that Michael continues to impact her life, explaining, ‘I believe his influence will always be present in my work, even if I’m not actively thinking about it.’

She explained that they had a good upbringing with strong values. Her father, for example, believed in earning rewards – if she wanted something like five toys from Toys ‘R’ Us, she first had to read five books.

As someone who’s always believed in broadening horizons, I really connected with Paris’s story about her upbringing. She shared that her father didn’t shield her from the realities of the world – quite the opposite, actually. They traveled extensively, experiencing everything from different cultures to vastly different economic situations. She told NME they really saw it all, the whole spectrum of life, and that exposure shaped her in a profound way.

She’s been open about the pain of losing her partner, telling Hello! magazine that the saying ‘time heals all wounds’ isn’t quite true. Instead, she’s simply learned to live with the loss, adopting the mindset that she’s lost the most important thing in her life.

During the interview, Paris shared that her father always taught her to be proud of who she was and where she came from. She remembered him telling her directly, ‘You are Black. Embrace your heritage.’

This unusual picture with Rowe appears as Paris Hilton’s legal fight with those managing her father’s estate takes a new turn.

Michael Jackson’s estate managers, John McClain and John Branca, say Paris Jackson’s family owes them around $115,000 for fees related to ongoing disagreements.

Documents filed in court and obtained by the Daily Mail detail the costs involved in the case, including $93,924.63 spent on a motion to protect against a lawsuit intended to silence her, and $1,238.39 in legal fees for a July 2025 filing where Paris challenged how the estate was being managed.

According to a representative, Paris Jackson has been working for several months to investigate concerning issues and financial problems with how her father’s estate is being managed.

It’s understandable that those handling Michael Jackson’s estate and their legal teams are trying to maximize their own profits, even if it means taking money from the Jackson family.

Paris is staying strong and will keep pushing for openness, responsibility, and justice for her family.

Paris has emphasized that those managing the estate should prioritize what’s best for the people who will inherit and protect her father’s reputation.

According to her court documents, the estate had $464 million in cash that wasn’t invested as it should have been. She also states that ten law firms received over $4.5 million in 2021 – a larger amount than any single person who benefited from the estate that year.

Paris claims the people managing her father’s estate received $148 million between 2009 and 2021, which is why she’s now demanding more transparency and accountability.

Recent photos on Paris’s Instagram reveal she’s doing well, finding support from her mother, accepting her history, and celebrating the family who raised her.
