Parenting Fail: Jackie ‘O’ Henderson Sleeps Through Daughter’s School Concert
Jackie O’ Henderson recently posted an awkward parenting experience that numerous moms and dads will find familiar.
The 50-year-old was attending her daughter Kitty’s school concert on Sunday when she fell asleep attracting unwanted attention from audience members.
And to make matters worse Jackie managed to mistake her 14-year-old daughter’s on-stage appearance for another student.
The KIIS FM star shared her mortifying story in a segment on the Kyle and Jackie O Show on Monday.
Jackie explained she was battling fatigue ahead of arriving for her daughter’s show at the Opera House after she flown into Sydney from Europe at 6am.
The popular radio host, once married to Lee Henderson, went to the event by herself and soon felt the effects of jet lag.
‘I had to go to Kitty’s school concert last night,’ she began.
As a die-hard fan, it fell upon me that Lee wouldn’t be attending, and truthfully, the entire day, I found myself pondering, “How on earth can I dodge this?” I even considered, “Could I offer her something to sway her decision? Could I suggest taking a day off under the guise of being unwell?” She chuckled at my predicament.
‘We had to sit through the orchestral stuff first, I reckon in 10 minutes, I was asleep.
When you’re experiencing dozing off intermittently, with your head bobbing up involuntarily, it’s clear to those nearby that you’re falling asleep.
It appears that everyone at Kitty’s school is still married, making me feel like the sole unmarried parent.
Afterward, co-host Kyle Sandilands jokingly made a comment about Jackie, referencing her recently published memoir where she admitted to briefly using drugs and alcohol, an experience that eventually required her to seek treatment in a rehabilitation center.
Kyle jokingly suggested, “Take a look at her, she seems pretty intoxicated, possibly on medication again.” He advised, “You’d be better off staying at home instead.
Later in the segment Jackie said attempted to film her daughter’s appearance on stage – only for it to end in disaster.
Upon seeing her, I exclaimed, ‘Ah, there she is!’ I managed to locate her, zoomed in on her image, and confidently declared, ‘That’s Kitty!’, but it turned out that I had filmed the wrong girl instead. She then remarked, ‘I guess I do need glasses; my eyesight isn’t what it used to be.’
In the end Jackie explained her parenting moment turned out to be all for nothing.
‘I get a text from Kitty 25 minutes after she’s performed and she says, ”Mum, I felt sick, I didn’t go up on stage to perform”.
‘I thought, ”Oh, great”, but that’s all good, poor thing.’
Following the growing whispers, I’ve found myself without my driver’s license lately, confirming the speculations. Adapting to this change in my lifestyle has been an interesting journey so far.
Jackie and her co-host, Kyle, are presently under a lucrative deal with KIIS FM, valued at approximately $200 million.
The pair signed the record-breaking deal with Australian Radio Network (ARN) in November 2023 that will see them remain on airwaves until 2034.
It leaves the pair reportedly earning a whopping $10million per year salary each.
