Even though “Mayor of Kingstown” is a hit show created by Taylor Sheridan, its recent cancellation feels even more disappointing. However, fans will soon be able to watch the Jeremy Renner series on Netflix, offering a chance to revisit the drama.
While it’s good news that Mayor of Kingstown is now on Netflix, it’s a bit of a mixed blessing. Taylor Sheridan, the creator of the show, has become a well-known figure thanks to the success of Yellowstone, but his dominance in television might not last forever.
Mayor Of Kingstown Will Become Even More Popular On Netflix
The series Mayor of Kingstown will conclude with its fifth and final season. Unfortunately for fans, this last season will be shorter than previous ones, consisting of only eight episodes. While the show initially received mixed reviews, its fourth season was the most critically acclaimed yet.
Mayor of Kingstown centers around Mike McLusky, played by Jeremy Renner, a hardened ex-convict who now acts as a go-between for the city’s gangs. He manages the complicated world of the local prison system, trying to keep the peace between rival criminal groups. Mike isn’t afraid to use force when necessary, but he’s always wary of the deceitful nature of his work and constantly looks out for his own safety.
Mayor Of Kingstown’s Creator Had Plans For At Least 7 Seasons

While Yellowstone and its first spin-off, 1923, ended as creator Taylor Sheridan intended, the same wasn’t true for Mayor of Kingstown. Sheridan had planned seven seasons for the show, but its cancellation means the remaining storylines will now have to be concluded in the final eight episodes of season five.
The second season of Landman struggled because its story was too drawn out, so it might actually be good that Mayor of Kingstown is finishing up relatively soon. Often, shows cut short don’t deliver satisfying conclusions, but the fact that Mayor of Kingstown is available on Netflix gives fans some reason to be optimistic.
Could Netflix Save Mayor Of Kingstown?
However, relying on this possibility might actually create more problems down the line. While moving the canceled series to Netflix could potentially save it, that’s unlikely. Netflix could renew Mayor of Kingstown if it becomes very popular on the platform, and doing so would further build Taylor Sheridan’s presence in television.
With Taylor Sheridan’s contract with Paramount ending shortly, shows like Mayor of Kingstown might find a new home. However, a revival isn’t very likely, as it’s unusual for shows to continue much beyond where they already are. This probably means season 5 will be the last for Mayor of Kingstown.
