As a huge animation fan, I’m really excited about what Paramount and Skydance are doing with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! They’ve announced a new animated series, and it sounds like they’re taking a really interesting approach – leaning into a style that’s become super popular in animation recently. The best part? It’s coming straight to YouTube later this year, which is awesome for accessibility!
The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series will feature 30 animated episodes, each about 4 minutes long. These episodes will focus on the Turtles learning and training when they were young, and the show is designed for preschool-aged children.
Paramount recently used a similar strategy. In September, during Star Trek Day, they released content specifically for preschool-aged children. This is similar to what Disney has been doing to attract young viewers to franchises like Bluey and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
The news about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was shared alongside other exciting plans for the franchise. These include new books, restaurants, and a partnership with Mattel to create toys.
As a lifelong fan, I’ve always loved that ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ delivers so much – action, laughs, and genuine heart. What really stands out is how the relationships between the Turtles have connected with audiences for decades. It’s amazing how the franchise lets you jump into their world, whether you’re watching a movie, dressing up as your favorite Turtle, playing with figures, or diving into a book. It’s more than just entertainment; ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ has truly left its mark on pop culture, something very few franchises can say. And I’m excited to see how these new products and experiences will keep that legacy going, bringing these stories to a whole new generation of fans.
Paramount Skydance Expands the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Franchise
The world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been brought to life through animation for decades, starting with the original 1987 series created by Fred Wolf Films. Recently, a new animated series connected to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movies was canceled after Paramount and Skydance merged, even though it had already been renewed.
As a huge TMNT fan, I really enjoyed the 2018 animated series because it showed the Turtles when they were first learning to be ninjas. It was definitely aimed at a younger audience than the 2003 and 2012 shows, but it wasn’t for little kids, you know? It wasn’t a preschool show at all.
In addition to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, Paramount Skydance has confirmed plans for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesthemed pizzerias in several cities, including Santa Monica, Monterrey (Mexico), and Sao Paulo (Brazil). Erik Burnham is also writing a novel based on the project. While Skydance was previously developing an R-rated movie adaptation of The Last Ronin*, there haven’t been any recent updates on that project.
Scholastic will release a new middle-grade illustrated novel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splinter’s Dojo, in September. Additionally, Mattel has secured the license to produce Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys, a consistently popular product line.
