Crystal Harris, the widow of Hugh Hefner, has gone to court to try and locate her late husband’s scrapbooks. She is concerned they may include pictures of girls who were underage at the time the photos were taken.
During a surprising press conference on Tuesday, Harris, along with her lawyer Gloria Allred, revealed that around 3,000 scrapbooks owned by the founder of Playboy contain nude and sexually explicit pictures of women.
Harris is concerned that the women pictured may have been either drunk or too young to legally consent to having their photos taken.
In a statement, Harris clarified that he wasn’t talking about photos published in magazines. He explained that his concern was with the private, behind-the-scenes moments documented in Hugh Hefner’s personal scrapbooks.
She expressed serious concerns about the content of these books, which date back to the 1960s. The materials potentially include pictures of girls who were minors when taken, and who therefore couldn’t have given permission for their images to be kept or used.
These scrapbooks might also feature pictures of women who never agreed to have their photos taken. They include nude images, photos taken during or after sexual encounters, and other very private moments.
She explained that this wasn’t a record of history, but rather a collection and labeling of deeply personal information about women.
The scrapbooks are reportedly stored in California, but Harris says she was informed that some might be at a private home being scanned and converted to digital format.
She expressed serious concern about the potential for these images to become public. With technologies like AI, deepfakes, digital scanning, and the risks of online sales and data breaches, once these images are released, the damage cannot be undone. Even a single security lapse could have a devastating impact on many people.
Harris says she was pressured to leave the Hugh M. Hefner Foundation board after she spoke up about the images in question.
Yesterday, I was fired from my role as CEO and President of the Foundation. This happened after I raised concerns about how private photos in the scrapbooks were being handled, and after I refused to resign.
Harris has formally asked the Attorneys General of California and Illinois to investigate how these images are being managed and protected, filing official complaints with both offices.
Harris emphasized that this case isn’t about financial gain. She’s fighting for respect, security, and the removal of private, intimate images taken without consent, preventing further exploitation disguised as charitable work. She believes this issue impacts thousands of women.
Besides the extensive scrapbook collection, the foundation also holds Hefner’s private diary. According to Allred, this diary details intimate aspects of his relationships, including the names of partners, descriptions of sexual encounters, and, in some cases, even information about their menstrual cycles.
Daily Mail has contacted the Hugh Hefner Foundation for comment.
Harris famously wed the Playboy founder in 2012 when she was 26 and he was 86.
He remained married to her until he passed away in 2017 at the age of 91. His death was caused by heart failure and a severe infection from a dangerous strain of E. coli. At the time of his death, he had an estimated net worth of $43 million.
In 2024, Cristine Harris released her revealing memoir, Only Say Good Things: Surviving Playboy And Finding Myself, where she made several shocking revelations. She admitted she never loved her late husband, the founder of Playboy, and described feeling trapped during their four-year marriage.
She later had a very public disagreement with Cooper and Marston Hefner, Hugh Hefner’s sons. Marston even accused Harris of being controlling and manipulative.
Marston questioned why someone who doesn’t care about being famous would bother purchasing Instagram followers, implying it’s a contradiction.
‘If you’re not after money, then why was she hustling as Crystal DJ Hefner?’
Harris later fired back at Marston’s claims in a statement to Us Weekly.
It’s clear he’s still dealing with a lot of emotional pain related to his relationship with his father, or the fact that they don’t have one.
She explained that he seems to be searching for healing and answers to questions that might remain unanswered. It’s possible he’s creating his own understanding to cope with the uncertainty.
Harris has also publicly clashed with Hefner’s ex-fiancee, Holly Madison.
The former model now works as a real estate agent and is engaged to entrepreneur James Ward.
