Pamela Anderson is a woman of many talents, and it turns out that singing is one of them.
Music producer Damion ‘Damizza’ Young claims that Pamela Anderson, the star of Baywatch, quietly sang backup vocals on Mariah Carey’s 2001 song, ‘Loverboy’.
I remember hearing how Mariah and Paula actually became friends way back in the early 2000s, and thatās what ultimately led to their collaboration! Young shared the story on the TFU Podcast, and itās just so interesting to learn how it all started.
I was at the studio finishing the Loverboy recording when Mariah told me Pam was stopping by to record backing vocals, he explained.
Okay, so I’m completely obsessed with Baywatch, right? When I heard Pamela Anderson was actually coming over, I nearly lost it! I was screaming ‘YES!’ instantly. Then, unbelievably, we were celebrating with champagne, and she asked me what I wanted! It was a total dream come true, seriously.
Young then praised Anderson’s surprisingly good vocal chops.
He enthusiastically praised Pam Anderson, saying she’s not only a talented singer but also incredibly intelligent. He revealed that her ‘dumb blonde’ persona is just a performance.
Released in 2001, “Loverboy” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. A remix featuring Da Brat and Ludacris also reached the top spot, this time on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Though many don’t realize it, Anderson actually provided vocals for the song. She talked about it back in 2014 when she helped host the World Music Awards.
‘I did background vocals on her album,’ Anderson said on stage. ‘I was the “Whoooo!” That was me.’
Working with Carey isn’t the first time that Anderson has had to sing.
The blonde bombshell previously played Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway back in 2022.
As a lifestyle expert, I have to say, even I was surprised by the Anderson .Paak and Mariah Carey collaboration! The reaction was pretty much what everyone was thinking ā I saw one fan put it perfectly, saying it was the most unexpected pairing they’d heard about in ages, and honestly, I couldnāt agree more. It’s delightfully random!
Someone else commented that she’s incredibly talented, especially if you’ve seen her perform in Chicago, and confirmed that she is a strong singer.
In recent years, Anderson has made strides to grow her acting career.Ā
In 2024, she won widespread critical acclaim for her lead role in the drama The Last Showgirl.
She acted with Liam Neeson in the comedy The Naked Gun, and her next role will be in the independent film Rosebush Pruning alongside Elle Fanning.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge will also appear in a new film called Place to Be, directed by acclaimed Hungarian director Kornél Mundruczó.
Anderson is focused on her successful career and isn’t looking for a relationship right now.
Honestly, all I can think about is finally letting it out. It’s like there’s this incredible power inside me, this ‘dragon’ I need to unleash, and I refuse to let anything or anyone stop me. It’s just⦠my moment. Everyone has this feeling eventually, this time when they have to express something, and for me, right now, this is it. It’s consuming me, and I need to just do it.
She continued, explaining that she’s currently focusing on self-sufficiency and personal growth, inspired by Osho’s idea that being comfortable alone is essential for truly loving others.
Occasionally, I’ll have a brief romantic interest, or someone might ask me out or suggest we plan for the future, which is exciting. It’s a nice boost that feels like it’ll keep me content for a long time ā usually about a year.
Pamela Anderson has been married five times to four different people. Her husbands include musicians Tommy Lee and Kid Rock, poker player Rick Salomon (whom she married twice), and her former bodyguard, Dan Hayhurst.
During the interview, Anderson discussed her time on Baywatch and in Playboy, stating she felt reduced to her looks and taken advantage of.
I wasn’t blameless in what happened. I allowed myself to be taken advantage of, particularly early in my career and in my personal relationships, and I essentially stopped resisting.
I realized I was being defined by those roles and the environment I was in. Being seen as just a girl in things like Playboy and Baywatch, and even how people treated me then, felt like I was being underestimated and told, ‘This is all you are capable of.’
At the time, I almost felt like I deserved the criticism, though I realize now that wasn’t true. In the moment, though, I understood where they were coming from.
It took a long time to move past that mindset. I was just focused on surviving, doing whatever work I could find, like reality shows, to make ends meet.
‘I had a divorce. I didn’t get any compensation from men, I wasn’t depending on anybody.’
