Pamela Anderson Lands Oscar Winner as Co-Star After Snub
Pamela Anderson just landed her first major role since making her triumphant acting comeback in The Last Showgirl, and it involves a certain Oscar winner playing her mother.
The 57-year-old Baywatch alum confirmed via Instastory on Monday that she’ll portray two-time divorcée Molly in Kornél Mundruczó’s upcoming drama Place to Be.
Pamela’s character is reportedly resistant to any plan to move her elderly mom Brooke – played by Ellen Burstyn – to a retirement facility.
The 92-year-old Law & Order: Organized Crime star’s no-nonsense character travels from Chicago to New York to return a lost racing pigeon home while bonding with discombobulated divorcé Nelson played by Oscar-winning screenwriter Taika Waititi.
The 49-year-old Hungarian filmmaker enthusiastically told Deadline on Monday, ‘I’m absolutely smitten with Pamela! She showcases such a broad range of acting talent, and her latest role in The Last Showgirl left me speechless.’
‘She showed such bravery, and I’m tremendously excited to work with her.’
In the comments section of Deadline’s Instagram post, both of Anderson’s sons, Brandon (age 28) and Dylan (age 27), from her three-year marriage to Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, expressed their pride.
On Wednesday, the fourth day of filming at the Place set in Sydney, Australia, marked a significant milestone – it had been five years since production on this project began.
The Canadian-American beauty received the best reviews of her career for playing seasoned showgirl Shelley Gardner, who must plan for her future when her Las Vegas revue abruptly closes after a 30-year run, in Gia Coppola’s indie drama shot in 18 days.
‘This role saved my life – the catalyst to a new beginning,’ Pamela – who boasts 4.9M Instagram/Facebook followers – wrote on February 24.
‘And to Shelly… You will hold a place in my heart forever. I love you, I wont let you down.’
On January 5, Anderson lost the best actress in a motion picture drama trophy to I’m Still Here star Fernanda Torres at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.
On February 23, Glamour’s Woman of the Year lost outstanding performance by a female actor in a leading role trophy to The Subtance star Demi Moore at the 31st SAG Awards.
But Pamela did receive acting prizes from Winter IndieWire Honors, Miami Film Festival, San Sebastián International Film Festival, SCAD Savannah Film Festival, Sun Valley Film Festival, and Zurich Film Festival.
Anderson currently hosts the eight-episode vegan cooking show Pamela’s Cooking With Love, which airs Mondays on Food Network Canada.
A model who has appeared on the cover of Playboy 15 times will soon take on a mysterious role alongside Liam Neeson in Akiva Schaffer’s revival of The Naked Gun, set to premiere in US and UK theaters on August 1.
And last September, Pamela was hard at work on the Spanish set of Karim Aïnouz’s dark satire Rosebush Pruning for Mubi alongside Elle Fanning, Callum Turner, Riley Keough, Jamie Bell, and Lukas Gage.
