Originally a Playboy Playmate, she now takes on the role of an experienced dancer who finds herself needing to map out her future after the closure of her long-running show, which had been active for 30 years.
Critics on Rotten Tomatoes have given the film an 81-percent rating.
At present, the movie is being shown at multiple film festivals following its debut at Toronto International Film Festival in September.
It will debut in theaters in limited release December 13 to qualify for awards nominations.
In her own words, Pamela shared how she utilized her personal hardships and past traumas from childhood to embody her character in The Last Showgirl. She confessed that she believes she might not have been able to portray this role effectively without the life experiences she’s had, making it all worthwhile for her.
‘If I can continue working and using these struggles and challenges… I’ll feel blessed,’ she said.
I found myself reminiscing about my childhood experiences. The memories seemed so vivid that I felt as if I could almost smell the familiar aromas of my home, mixed with the scent of cigarettes and alcohol. Reflecting on these past events turned out to be a significant part of my introspection.
She mentioned, “I was striving to regain control. I acquired my grandmother’s home, renovated it with a fresh coat of paint, and essentially started anew in my life.
She read the script for The Last Showgirl’ and said that project was, ‘life or death’ for her.
‘I was in my overalls, in my straw hat, thinking: “Get me out of here, let’s do this!” She added that she was, ‘terrified to meet co-star Jamie Lee Curtis, however.
She arrived at the table with a noticeable spray tan, and as we conversed, it seemed like her tan was deepening more and more.
As if we’ve been friends forever, it seems to me. She took hold of my shoulders firmly, meeting my gaze directly, and exclaimed, “Together, we can conquer this, friend!” she declared.
