Painkiller is Making a Comeback This Year With an All-New Brutal FPS Experience
3D Realms, under Saber Interactive’s banner, has revealed that the popular first-person shooter series, Painkiller, originally released in 2004, is set to return this year.
Anshar Studios, known for their projects such as “Observer: System Redux”, “Layers of Fear”, and “Divinity II”, is currently handling the development. The upcoming version of “Painkiller” promises a thrilling take on the original shooter style, offering a heavy metal soundtrack and rapid-fire combat featuring deadly weapons. This new game can be played solo or cooperatively by up to three players.
In this intense gaming adventure, I take on the role of one of four playable characters, embarking on a journey to purge Purgatory for my past sins against Heaven. Equipped with infernal weapons, reminiscent of the original Painkiller, I lay waste to hordes of demons and towering terrors, all while thwarting the fallen angel Azazel in my quest for redemption.
You’ll gain the ability to enhance your character by using tarot cards, progressing through the ranks to expand your weapon collection. You can choose to play as Ink, Void, Sol, or Roch, each offering distinct advantages such as increased health, power, energy, and damage. Additionally, you can engage in online cooperative play with up to three friends, or opt for offline gameplay with AI-controlled bots.
Painkiller will be coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC in ‘fall 2025’.
