The live-action version of Cowboy Bebop arrived when Netflix was still learning how to successfully adapt anime into live-action. At the time, the streaming service hadn’t yet mastered the formula for turning popular anime into memorable live-action shows, but they’ve had some successes with anime and manga adaptations since then.

Studio Pierrot is revisiting its magical girl roots with a new anime project, marking the first installment in nearly thirty years since Fancy Lala, the Magic Stage. The Pierrot Magical Girl Series began in 1983 with Magical Angel Creamy Mami, and after five seasons, the franchise went on hiatus. It remained paused until the recent announcement of Magical Sisters Lulutto Lilly. Like previous Pierrot series, this new anime features young protagonists who transform into older forms. However, unlike the well-known transformations in Sailor Moon, this series adds a darker element to the source of their powers.

What makes For All Mankind stand out is its high-quality storytelling and the incredible attention to detail in recreating everything you see – from the settings to the equipment and procedures. The show realistically portrays the mental challenges of space exploration, the political and financial forces driving innovation, and the genuine risks of traveling into space. Even though it presents a different version of history, the series feels remarkably authentic and grounded, offering a more believable depiction of spaceflight than most shows.

If you have HBO Max, you absolutely shouldn’t miss Our Flag Means Death. This original series is a hilarious and heartwarming blend of action, history, and romance. It tells the story of Stede Bonnet, a real-life pirate who went from being a wealthy merchant to finding love with the legendary Blackbeard. Though one pirate historian calls it ‘completely made up,’ it’s still a fantastic show!

While The Big O uses familiar ideas from the giant robot genre, it’s surprisingly more similar to Batman: The Animated Series than to other popular mecha shows like Mobile Suit Gundam or Mazinger. If you enjoyed the style and feel of Batman: The Animated Series, you’ll likely be captivated by The Big O.

This season deals with the aftermath of a huge loss – Preston Clyburn (Kurt Russell) has passed away, and his wife, Stacy (Michelle Pfeiffer), along with their daughters Abigail (Beau Garrett) and Paige (Elle Chapman), are grappling with grief. The whole family – including Paige’s husband, Russell (Patrick J. Adams), and Abigail’s kids, Bridgette (Amiah Miller) and Macy (Alaina Pollock) – heads to Montana, where Preston died, hoping to find some peace and figure out their next steps. It sounds like a really emotional season!
