Paddington’s Hugh Bonneville confirms next TV role
As a gamer with a penchant for documentaries and a soft spot for Hugh Bonneville‘s charming roles, I’m thrilled to hear about his new venture narrating “The Secret Lives of Animals.” With my extensive experience in watching countless animal documentaries (thanks to my cat who keeps me company during late-night gaming sessions), I can confidently say that this series will be a visual treat. The fact that it’s produced by the same team behind “Prehistoric Planet” and “The Year Earth Changed” just adds to the anticipation.
Actor Hugh Bonneville, famously known for his roles in Paddington and Downton Abbey, has announced his upcoming television endeavor, which will see him focus on providing voiceovers.
The celebrity will share stories in “The Secret Lives of Animals,” a captivating 10-episode documentary collection by Apple TV+, which showcases the remarkable intelligence hidden within the wonders of nature.
The upcoming show is scheduled to air on December 18th. As suggested by the description, it promises to captivate audiences with a lively examination of unique animal behaviors, several of which are being filmed for the very first time, bringing joy and inspiration.
Every installment offers an insightful exploration into significant stages in diverse animal lifecycles, spanning from their birth, venturing out on their own, nurturing their families, locating sustenance, and aging gracefully, thereby highlighting their remarkable intellect and resilience.

For a period of three years, “The Secret Lives of Animals” was filmed. A diverse range of 77 species were showcased in this series, which spanned across 24 different nations. The production company responsible for this captivating show is BBC Studios Natural History Unit, and it marks their third partnership with Apple TV+, following projects like “Prehistoric Planet” and “The Year Earth Changed.
Even though it’s less than a month until you’ll hear Bonneville in “The Secret Lives of Animals,” right now, you can catch him on the movie screen in “Paddington in Peru,” which is the latest installment in the series.
In a recent interview, Bonneville, who portrays Henry Brown in the trilogy, discussed the seven-year gap between the latest installment and its predecessor, revealing: “Of course, the pandemic caused some delays, and there were numerous behind-the-scenes challenges as well.
Fundamentally, director Dougal Wilson was persistently refining his storyboard and concepts throughout the process. After much revision, we eventually reached our goal, and it’s delightful to witness this project come to fruition and be released. The initial responses we’ve received are genuinely heartening and positive.
On December 18, you can watch “The Hidden Worlds of Animals” on Apple TV+. Meanwhile, catch “Paddington” in theaters as we speak, in Peru!
