Paddington 4 gets disappointing update
As a gamer with a heart for movies and a soft spot for beloved characters like Paddington, I must admit that the latest update from producer Rosie Alison has left me both excited and anxious. Having grown up watching the first two installments of this delightful series, I can’t help but feel protective about its continued success.
The third instalment, “Paddington in Peru,” was a refreshing change of scenery that not only surpassed its predecessors in opening weekend numbers but also showcased the bear’s journey to self-discovery in a heartwarming way. However, the possibility of a fourth movie remains uncertain, with Alison citing the global box office performance as the deciding factor.
I find myself hoping that “Paddington” will continue its enchanting journey, not just for the love of the franchise but also because it delivers a timely and essential message about immigration, belonging, and finding one’s place in the world. As Alison so eloquently put it, Paddington is the quintessential immigrant story, and his heart caught between two homes forms the core of this series.
In the spirit of Paddington’s adventurous spirit, I can’t help but add a little gaming twist to my anticipation: “May the best bear find its way home – or should I say, to the big screen again!” Let’s hope that Paddington’s next adventure is just around the corner and brings as much joy to audiences worldwide as his previous escapades have done.
Paddington 4 has received a disappointing update from producer Rosie Alison.
In 2014, the much-loved Paddington series made its way onto the silver screen, where it garnered massive popularity. Its 2017 sequel, titled “Paddington 2”, also enjoyed considerable success.
In the UK and Ireland, the third movie titled “Paddington in Peru” hit the screens in November 2024. It swiftly outperformed its earlier versions, achieving the highest box office earnings during its opening weekend within the entire franchise.
Nevertheless, even though Paddington 3 opened with a blockbuster premiere, it remains undecided if there will be a fourth film in the series.
Based on what producer Alison stated, the fate of Paddington lies in the response it receives from worldwide cinema-goers during its global release, which spans across January and February in countries like Australia, the U.S., and most of Europe.
Alison mentioned to Screen Daily that we need to observe this movie’s performance globally and in the U.S., as we are optimistic about its success. By Easter, we should have a better understanding of the situation, but hopefully, there will be signs pointing towards what might follow next in the film.
She commented: “Indeed, I hold a special affection for the first two movies. However, I must say I feel particularly guarded about the third one. I was aware that we might face criticism if people were saying ‘It’s not as good as Paddington 2’, but I believe it has its unique merits and was worth the effort.
Additionally in the conversation, Alison shared her fondness for the Paddington series and the significant message found in the third film.
One aspect I’ve found particularly enjoyable while working on these movies and developing the character, is attempting to discern the parts of Paddington that truly stand out. These tales revolve around themes such as getting lost and found, experiencing separation and reunion.
His tale perfectly embodies the classic immigrant narrative, so it seemed fitting that the struggle of a heart torn between two homelands would be included in the third movie. Moreover, at the conclusion, he is given the opportunity to decide his own fate.
Paddington in Peru is in cinemas now.
