Ozzy Osbourne is set to candidly discuss his health struggles in an upcoming documentary.

Over the past five years, the renowned 78-year-old rock star has had seven surgeries, one of which was his fourth spinal surgery in September 2023. He has also been quietly coping with Parkinson’s disease since 2003.

This year, the documentary titled “Ozzy Osbourne: Breaking Free” (a production in collaboration with MTV and the Osbourne family) is set for release on Paramount+.

The movie provides an unfiltered, personal perspective on the hardships Ozzy has faced following his life-changing fall in 2019.

The event will delve into the ways his unexpected fall, coupled with a struggle against pneumonia and a Parkinson’s diagnosis, fundamentally transformed his life from that point forward.

Regarding the documentary, Osbourne remarked: “The past six years have held some of the toughest periods in my life.

There have been instances where I felt my end was near, but creating music and producing two albums kept me going. Without the presence of music in my life, I might have lost my sanity.

As an ardent admirer putting it in my own words, I can’t help but echo Sharon’s sentiments: “This movie offers a heartfelt portrayal of Ozzy’s recent trials and tribulations.

The text demonstrates the difficulties he’s faced and the bravery he’s exhibited in managing numerous health predicaments, among them Parkinson’s disease. It’s a portrayal of his current life situation.

I’ve collaborated with a reliable production crew who were given creative liberty to narrate the story candidly, enabling an authentic portrayal of events.

‘We hope that story will inspire people that are facing similar issues to Ozzy.’

Recording for the documentary started back in 2022 while he was working on his solo album, Patient Number 9, and it’s set to go on until summer.

In simple terms, the documentary is set to chronicle Ozzy’s preparations for Black Sabbath’s much-awaited “Back to the Beginning” concert, which is scheduled at Villa Park, Birmingham, in 2025.

After Ozzy provided a health update earlier this month, it was mentioned that his last Black Sabbath performance is scheduled for later in the year.

On Ozzy’s Boneyard on SiriusXM, he mentioned: “You realize it, despite all my talk about not being able to walk or do certain things, over the holidays, I found myself thinking – for as much as I grumble, I’m still here and kicking.

He added: ‘Although I complain about my limited mobility, when I glance ahead, there are individuals who accomplished far less than me, and they didn’t survive.’

‘I’m trying to get back on my feet.’

Host Billy Morrison added: ‘Ozzy, you are so much better than you were just a year ago.’

He responded: ‘Indeed, the recovery is taking a long time. That frustrating surgeon. Adding to that, my Parkinson’s disease. In the morning, it feels like I leap out of bed, but then I have to steady myself, as you can imagine. However, as you pointed out, I’m not dead yet; I’m still managing and staying active.’

Last week, it became known that his band will be reuniting after a 20-year hiatus, joining several other major acts.

This summer, the classic members of the legendary heavy metal band Black Sabbath will reunite for a single performance in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

On July 5th, the concert is set to occur at the hometown of the band, and it will include performances by Ozzy (aged 76), bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward, who are all members of the group.

Yet, this development took many by surprise when Ozzy revealed in a 2024 Rolling Stone interview that he felt pessimistic about returning to the stage.

When asked if he could do it, he said, “I’d really like to, but I’m unable to stand at the moment. Perhaps I’ll find a chance someday. It’s been terribly missed by me.

Was the star subsequently questioned about performing a brief set should he be inducted into the Rock Hall, to which he replied: “Perhaps. I’ll find out.

In 2003, a well-known British musician received a diagnosis of a gentle type of Parkinson’s disease. Yet, it wasn’t until 2020 that he made this health condition known to the public.

Instead, Ozzy mentioned that the main challenges he faces stem from a fall in 2019, which displaced the metal rods in his spine.

The rods had been put there following a quad bike accident at his Buckinghamshire home in 2003.

In an interview with Rolling Stone UK, he shared that the second operation took a dramatic turn for the worse and essentially left him incapacitated.

Initially, I anticipated being back on my feet swiftly following sessions two and three. However, the final procedure required them to insert a rod into my spine, which has certainly prolonged my recovery process.

In my case, medical professionals discovered a tumor within one of my vertebrae, necessitating a complete removal of the affected area. Needless to say, this experience has been quite challenging, as my sense of balance has been significantly impacted.

In less formal terms, the Dark Prince mentioned that he only had “a few more days to live,” reminiscing about an argument he had with his spouse regarding smoking marijuana.

On Wednesday, Sharon, Ozzy’s spouse, attended the unveiling of the new show at Birmingham’s Villa Park, a popular concert venue, together with the band’s lead guitarist, Tony Iommi.

Sharon proudly held up a Villa football shirt with Ozzy’s name on the back as she posed pitchside.

In the early ’70s, this band was a trailblazer for the heavy metal genre, achieving success with songs like War Pigs, Paranoid, and Iron Man.

Black Sabbath, since their joint performance in 2005, has taken the stage in various reunion configurations, yet they’ve never returned with their original band members.

Sharon, who co-parents three kids with the celebrity, has likewise acknowledged that the show might pose a challenging ordeal for the star.

According to her statement, he expressed great joy at returning and was quite emotional about the situation. It’s important to note that Parkinson’s is a condition that worsens over time.

The condition isn’t something that can be made steady or consistent. It impacts various areas of the body, and in this case, it has affected his legs. Remarkably, his voice remains unaffected and sounds just as strong as it has ever been.

The earnings from the performance will be distributed evenly among three charities: Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice. Notably, it is Sharon and Ozzy who will decide which of these contributions goes to the charity for Parkinson’s research.
