Andrew Watt, who produced music for Ozzy Osbourne, shared memories of their last time together, expressing his continued disbelief at the Black Sabbath star’s unexpected passing.
Ozzy sadly passed away in July at 76 years old, just weeks after playing his last-ever show with the band.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Andrew discussed the Birmingham concert, Back to the Beginning, that was held on July 5th. He shared his thoughts and feelings about the event, offering a retrospective look at the performance.
Oh my gosh, listening to Andrew talk about it just gave me chills! He said it felt so… surreal. He kept saying everything was totally normal, just a regular day. And then, the next day… boom! The news hit, and it was just a giant shock, he said. I mean, can you imagine?! It’s like, one minute everything’s fine, and the next… everything changes. I’m obsessed with hearing him describe it!
He also discussed their final moments together the night before the show.
Andrew spent several hours with Ozzy in his hotel room as they prepared for the big event.

He explained: ‘He had a remarkable ability to understand you completely, accepting both your strengths and flaws, and simply appreciating you for who you were – he possessed a sort of intuitive, almost mystical quality. He frequently seemed to anticipate events before they unfolded, and had an amazing intuition.’
Thankfully, Ozzy’s last show was ‘unbelievable’ according to Andrew.
‘It feels like I’m in a dream right now,’ he said. ‘The past month has felt like a dream. I was working on a project in London, and being able to go to the show and then travel to Birmingham was incredible.’
As a producer, I was incredibly fortunate to work with Ozzy on his final two albums. We created Ordinary Man in 2020, and then Patient Number 9 in 2022. This all came after Ozzy’s accident back in 2019, and it was a real privilege to be part of his journey back to making music. It was a challenging but rewarding experience, and I’m so proud of what we accomplished together.
As many of you know, Ozzy had been facing a really tough battle with his health for some time. Leading up to his passing, he’d had several corrective surgeries, and unfortunately, things just kept piling on – his existing health problems got worse, and the effects of his Parkinson’s diagnosis sadly continued to progress. It was a difficult journey, and we’re all heartbroken by the loss.
Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic singer of Black Sabbath, died on July 22nd at the age of 76. He was buried on the property of his home in Buckinghamshire, England.
Ozzy was laid to rest during a private funeral attended by his family and a host of rock royalty.

It was so heartbreaking to see Sharon and the kids going through this, but they were surrounded by so much love at the event. It took place on their beautiful 250-acre estate near Gerrards Cross, and so many friends came to support them – even Marilyn Manson and Zakk Wylde, Ozzy’s incredible lead guitarist, were there. It really showed how much everyone cared for him.
Official documents listed three causes of death for the rock legend.
This encompassed a cardiac arrest that happened outside of a hospital, a sudden heart attack (acute myocardial infarction), and issues with the arteries supplying the heart (coronary artery disease). It also included Parkinson’s disease, along with problems regulating automatic body functions (autonomic dysfunction).
Ozzy Osbourne’s family announced in a statement last July that he had passed away surrounded by love. They said: ‘It is with more sadness than words can express that we share the news of our beloved Ozzy’s passing this morning.‘
