Ozzy Osbourne’s adopted son’s life out of the spotlight: How Elliot ditched the UK for a quiet life in New Zealand as he’s excluded from family tribute (and his job is a far cry from the world of rock n’roll!)

Elliot, who was adopted by Ozzy Osbourne and now works as an IT specialist, is peacefully residing in New Zealand and was notably absent from his family’s tribute to the late rockstar after his passing.

Although I was brought up in the same household as Ozzy Osbourne and his first wife Thelma Riley, it was my sisters Aimee and Kelly, along with my brothers Jack and Louis who were mentioned in the family’s announcement of his passing on Tuesday. I was not included in that statement.

Five years back, Elliot decided to leave his life behind in the UK and embark on a fresh start with his wife, Joanne Crawford, an expert in Occupational Health, originally from Scotland, in Wellington.

Ozzy, who has six kids from two different marriages, had only four of them mentioned in the statement about his passing, leaving out Jessica and Elliot.

The star adopted Elliot during his first marriage to wife Thelma when he was just five years old.

Elliot hasn’t made a public statement regarding their father’s passing yet, but his brother Louis has expressed his sorrow on Facebook by altering his profile picture to a completely black image.

On Tuesday, Ozzy suffered from the effects of Parkinson’s Disease he had been fighting for six years and passed away, only a few weeks following Black Sabbath’s last joint performance in their birthplace.

As a child, Elliot lived with his dad in Birmingham. He later enrolled in King Edward VI High School, located in Stafford, and had earlier educational experiences at Birmingham College.

From 2002 up until 2013, he and Joanne resided in the city before moving to Bathgate, situated in West Lothian. Their family consists of two sons: Owyn, who is 22 years old, and James, who turns 29 this year.

Instead of following in his renowned father’s footsteps, Elliot chose a more technology-focused profession. Specifically, he embarked on a career in telecommunications and began working as a Collaboration Support Specialist for the company Viju, which is now known as Kinly, based in Livingston.

For the past three years since their relocation to New Zealand, he has been employed as a Level One Helpdesk and Technical Support Specialist.

During his stay in the UK, Elliot was an avid supporter of Stoke City Football Club as well. A 2011 Facebook post revealed that he had attended one of their games, following an interview on their local radio station.

Joanne, holding a PhD in Occupational Health from the University of Surrey, has enjoyed a distinguished academic journey, serving as a senior lecturer specializing in Ergonomics at the University of Birmingham until 2007.

She spent 13 years working at the Institute of Occupational Medicine located in the greater Edinburgh region. Since 2020, she’s held the position of professor at Victoria University of Wellington.

Joanne has additionally written academic articles about subjects such as “Health Risks Not Related to Cancer in Firefighters” and “Employees Over 65 in a Societal Context Supporting Sustainability.

As an open-minded individual, I’ve never hesitated to voice my opinions on contentious personalities like Donald Trump and Elon Musk, regardless of the potential controversy they stir up.

One piece of content, initially published in April, served as a reaction to New Zealand Herald reporter Paul Thomas’ statement that Trump embodied everything the world dislikes about the United States.

She wrote: ‘Another nearly New Zealander agrees, and suspect a few million more do too.’

In a 2024 blog post, she pondered over the idea of moving to New Zealand during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, when the nation closed its borders as an effort to lower the number of fatalities.

2020 found her splitting her time between New Zealand (NZ) and the United Kingdom (UK). While the stay in NZ proved challenging, it ultimately succeeded. The tragic loss of 250,000 to 280,000 lives in the UK underscores why the NZ approach was effective.

It’s not much that’s been shared about their youngest child Owyn, but we do know more about their second son James. He pursued his education in both Glasgow and Dundee, and he recently got married to his partner David Mace in New Zealand towards the end of last year.

It seems as well that Elliot maintains a connection with his brother Louis, and his spouse Louise, who happens to be his friend on Facebook. Previously, she had commended him for thoughtfully sending delightful presents for their kids.

Louise tagged Elliot and his wife in a Facebook post showcasing gifts she had sent for their kids.

2016 post: “These children are so thrilled! A big thank you goes out to Elliot Osbourne and Joanne Crawford for their wonderful presents.

Currently, Louis is employed as a disc jockey. In the year 2004, he tied the knot with Louise Lennon, an actress and producer. Interestingly, both of them maintain a connection with his sibling, Jessica, to this day.

Due to the severe injuries he sustained from a quad bike accident, Ozzy unfortunately couldn’t make it to Louis’ wedding.

In addition, Jessica has maintained contact with her brother Louis and his spouse, since as far back as 2016, when Louise shared that they were going on a trip to Tenerife to meet up with them.

The post also stated that Louis’ mother Thelma had gifted him and Louise the trip away.

2011’s documentary film, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, produced by his son Jack, disclosed that Ozzy himself couldn’t recall the exact birthdates of Louis and Jessica.

Louis also opened up about growing up with a drunk father.

‘When he was around and he wasn’t [drunk], he was a great father,’ he said in the documentary.

However, such incidents were quite rare. Instead, my recollections of him are often tainted by instances where he was intoxicated. For example, I remember him driving vehicles through fields during the late hours of the night, only to crash them in the process.

‘It’s not good for family life, really.’

Jessica, his elder sister, mentioned, “I can’t recall being tucked in, bathed, or any similar tasks performed by Dad.

As a lifestyle advisor, I’d put it this way: “On sports days, school trips, and parent-teacher conferences, he wasn’t the one making an appearance. His actions didn’t align with the typical involved parent, no.

Jessica was the individual who initially made Ozzy a grandfather, although she wasn’t featured on their TV show, “The Osbournes.” However, her presence was acknowledged in an episode titled ‘Smells Like Teen Spirits,’ when Ozzy found out about the birth of her daughter.

She has two daughters, Isabelle and Kitty, and one son called Harry, with her husband Benjamin.

Following his divorce from Thelma, Osbourne later tied the knot with Sharon in 1982. Their first child, a daughter named Aimee, entered the world on September 2, 1983.

Exactly one year apart, they joyously added daughter Kelly to their family, born on October 27, 1984. Then, on November 8, 1985, they were blessed with the arrival of their son, Jack.

Born in London, Aimee (also known as ARO, her initials) spent her childhood years in California until she was 16. However, she left her family home when filming for The Osbournes started around the turn of the millennium.

On Tuesday, the Osbournes announced Ozzy’s passing via a statement, however, neither Elliot nor Jessica were mentioned by name in the announcement.

It is with deep sorrow beyond what words can express that we must share the heartbreaking news: Our cherished Ozzy Osbourne has left us this morning.

‘He was in the company of his loved ones, immersed in warmth. At present, we kindly request that everyone honors our family’s seclusion. This includes Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and Louis.’

In the course of my dedication, I found myself sharing the news on Wednesday about a harrowing incident at the grand estate of the Osbournes. It seems that an air ambulance was dispatched to their country home, as paramedics tirelessly worked for two hours in a valiant effort to save the life of one of its residents.

Friends have shared with Alison Boshoff that Sharon might choose to conduct a small, private burial for Ozzy on their 350-acre estate, given her current fragile state. This is because she may find a larger, public service too overwhelming. Such a decision has left friends concerned about Sharon’s wellbeing.

In simple terms, Ozzy performed at a goodbye concert held at Villa Park Stadium, which is in his hometown of Birmingham, just about three weeks prior to his passing.

For the first time since 2005, the rocker got together with his original Black Sabbath bandmates, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, in a heartfelt reunion. This time was not for creating new music but to say a poignant goodbye to decades of live stage performances.

Within mere minutes of going on sale, approximately 42,000 enthusiasts flocked to Villa Park for the fittingly named “Back to the Beginning” concert, where Ozzy and Black Sabbath revisited their hometown – a return that took place 56 years after they originally came together there.

The last photo captured of him prior to his passing was taken on stage, where he sat regally on a sleek, bat-adorned black chair, playing his most famous songs for his devoted followers during a performance.

‘This is our final tune. Your backing has allowed us to lead a fantastic life; we are truly grateful from deep within our souls.’

The screen displayed a message: “Thank you for everything, you’re truly incredible. Keep shining, Birmingham!” As the sky burst into fireworks, it was clear to all that the celebration was far from over.
