Ozzy Osbourne reveals personal crisis amid health woes ahead of his final UK show as Black Sabbath frontman
As a lifestyle expert looking back on my own experiences, I’ve learned that life often throws unexpected challenges our way – just like me preparing for what may be my last-ever performance this summer. Ozzy Osbourne, a fellow artist and friend, has bravely shared his personal struggles ahead of his upcoming show.
On July 5th, the iconic rock star, who is now 76 years old, will perform once more as he joins Black Sabbath on stage again in their hometown of Birmingham, UK, at Villa Park, during their “Back to the Beginning” concert.
Ozzy is set to make a comeback after not performing since late 2018, following his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease. (This version aims to maintain clarity while using more conversational language.)
As the show date draws near, Ozzy has shared insights about his struggles with self-assurance and stage anxiety.
On Ozzy Speaks’ SiriusXM podcast, he shared: “I struggle with excessive mental activity, specifically Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. After finishing the show, I might as well be dead before I even begin my exercises. To manage this, I try to set it aside for a while.

‘I’m not going up there saying “It’s going to be great. I’m really confident.”
In my mind, I felt as if I had met an untimely end. Once, in Las Vegas, I recall being backstage, whispering to myself, “I’m going to gamble. I might just lose everything.
I found myself convinced to sabotage the performance. After all, it was just two simple songs. Sharon advised me, “Just don’t let your thoughts wander.” Yet here I am, fixated on the idea of a bird potentially soiling my stage during the show.
As a devoted follower, let me express that I am pouring in every ounce of my energy and commitment – 120 percent, to be precise. If divine guidance leads me to take part in the show, then I shall comply. At times, when I find myself fixated on the passing hours, I risk losing my sanity by the end of the week. Consequently, I choose to face each day with patience and resilience.
As a lifestyle expert, I find myself often pondering the same question that many artists face – should I stand or sit during my performances, after undergoing several spinal surgeries? It’s a delicate balance between expressing my art and ensuring comfort for my body.
In the early 1970s, Black Sabbath blazed a trail for heavy metal music, producing popular tracks like War Pigs, Paranoid, and Iron Man.
Ever since Black Sabbath graced our ears with their magical music at their last joint performance in 2005, I’ve been eagerly waiting for the day they’d take the stage once more, not just as a reunion, but as the iconic original lineup that shaped my musical journey. Alas, it seems we’ve only seen partial reunions thus far – a tantalizing taste, but never the full-fledged experience I yearn for.
Prior to the performance, Ozzy is adhering to a rigorous training regimen that includes having his blood pressure checked fifteen times daily.

He shared: ‘I’ve found a personal trainer who aims to help individuals return to their usual selves. It’s quite challenging, but he’s confident he can succeed with my case. I’m putting all my effort into it.’
‘It’s endurance. The first thing that goes when you’re laid up is your stamina.
I have a heart rate monitor on my finger, which I use fifteen times daily to check my blood pressure.
A few days ago, Ozzy made a commitment to continue with his performance, saying to The Guardian: “I’ll attend, and I’ll give it my all. In essence, that’s all I can do – show up.
Previously, Maynard James Keenan, the lead singer of Tool, had expressed uncertainty about whether Ozzy would be able to perform live.
He commented on the performances, where his band will also participate: “I’m hesitant to say ‘Absolutely! They’re fully committed, he’s going to pull it off.’ I’m not sure what innovative solutions we’ll find to get him on stage to perform the songs, but this is certainly a difficult task for them.
As a die-hard enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement about being involved in this incredible venture. Yet, I find myself bracing for potential difficulties, while keeping my fingers crossed for nothing but the best possible outcome.
This year, Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy’s wife, shared that he had been finding it difficult to walk due to the advancement of his Parkinson’s disease.
She shared with The Sun, “He’s overjoyed to return and quite emotional regarding this. Given that Parkinson’s is a progressive condition,…
‘This issue isn’t something that can be made constant or steady. It impacts various areas of the body, and in this case, it has affected his legs. However, his voice remains strong and unchanged, as good as it has ever been.’

In 2003, Ozzy received a diagnosis for a relatively mild type of Parkinson’s disease. Yet, it wasn’t until 2020 that he chose to make this health issue public knowledge.
Nevertheless, he’s indicated that the main challenges he faces stem from a fall he experienced in 2019, which led to the displacement of metal rods in his spine.
The rods had been put there following a quad bike accident at his Buckinghamshire home in 2003.
Ozzy has been open about his past addictions to drink and drugs at the height of his career.
In his Madhouse Chronicles podcast, he previously mused: ‘While I’ve been recuperating, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, and I’ve come to the sobering realization that all of my usual drinking companions have passed away.’
“It seems incredible that I’m still alive after so many others. What makes me the sole survivor? At times, when I gaze into the mirror, I can’t help but wonder, ‘How on earth did I manage to survive?’
‘I should have been dead a thousand times. I’ve had my stomach pumped God knows how many times.’
