Ozzy Osbourne has waited for his ‘final bow.’ Black Sabbath will be there when it happens

Legendary metal singer Ozzy Osbourne, known as the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath and self-dubbed “Prince of Darkness,” is preparing for a farewell concert in the heavy-metal genre following struggles with health problems in recent times.

76-year-old Ozzy Osbourne, known for his rocker persona and appearances on the “Osbournes” reality TV show, declared on Wednesday that he will perform his last concert this summer, and he won’t be performing solo. Ozzy, along with original Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, are scheduled to reunite for the first time in 20 years as headliners at Back to the Beginning, a heavy metal festival happening on July 5 in Villa Park, Birmingham, England.

On Wednesday, Osbourne expressed that it’s time for him to return to his roots, to the place where he was born. He feels incredibly fortunate to be able to do this with the assistance of those he cherishes. Birmingham holds a special place in the history of metal music, and Osbourne declared, ‘Birmingham forever.’

Due to the success of his collaboration on a popular song with Post Malone, Ozzy Osbourne is experiencing a remarkable comeback in his career, even as he fights against Parkinson’s disease and numerous other health issues.

At “Back to the Beginning,” attendees can expect a special treat: Ozzy Osbourne will perform not one but two sets. First, he’ll give a brief solo performance, followed by joining Black Sabbath for what may be his last live appearance. In recent times, health complications have limited his chances to perform live. This renowned Grammy-winning rocker, who revealed his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis in 2020, had to cancel several shows in 2023 due to health concerns.

In February 2023, Osbourne declared his departure from touring and postponed the remaining dates of his No More Tours II swan song tour. He informed fans then that he was struggling to manage the travel requirements due to health reasons. However, a month later, he seemed to contradict his retirement intentions and affirmed on SiriusXM’s “Ozzy’s Boneyard” that he is in good health and not near death.

At that point, he expressed that the one thing sustaining him was creating records, yet he couldn’t keep doing that indefinitely. He felt compelled to take action and explore beyond it, as you well know.

As a dedicated metalhead in July 2023, I regretfully announced my withdrawal from the Power Trip festival, explaining to my fans that my body wasn’t quite ready for the spotlight yet. In an interview with Rolling Stone UK in November 2023, I expressed my intention to return to the stage when I could give a performance worthy of my audience – one day at a time.

I’m striving to achieve a point where I can perform one show and express my gratitude to all of you for my life, as I’ve always wanted to,” I said in an interview. “That’s my goal, and if I should pass away after completing it, I will die content.

Clearly, Osbourne has been waiting for an opportunity like Back to the Beginning.

As a devotee of heavy metal, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be part of a one-day celebration honoring the pioneers of this genre. Legends like Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Gojira, Halestorm, Lamb of God, and numerous other rock bands are set to perform.
