Legendary heavy metal figure Ozzy Osbourne, hailing from Birmingham, England and the iconic lead singer for Black Sabbath, passed away at the age of 76. He had been coping with Parkinson’s disease for a prolonged period.
With deeper sorrow than any words can express, it is with great regret that we must announce the tragic passing of Ozzy Osbourne this morning. His family confirmed the news on Instagram, stating he was with them and enveloped by love at the time.
Let’s all be mindful of our family’s personal space during this period. Warm regards from Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and Louis.
In 2019, Osbourne, often referred to as the “Prince of Darkness,” received a Parkinson’s diagnosis and has openly discussed his challenges since then. Recently, he performed what is believed to be his last show in his native Birmingham. At this festival, he invited Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward for the band’s first joint performance in two decades.
In 1968, Ozzy Osbourne, along with guitarist Iommi, bassist Butler, and drummer Ward, established a heavy metal band that would later be known as Black Sabbath. Their first, extended-play album, titled simply “Black Sabbath,” was released in 1970, paving the way for numerous hard rock bands to emerge subsequently.
Back in April of ’79, I got the boot from Black Sabbath. But instead of dwelling on it, I focused on my solo journey and made a bold move – I signed up Sharon Arden as my manager (who was soon to become Mrs. Osbourne). Together, we introduced the world to Ozzfest in ’96, a festival that shined a light on the freshest heavy metal talents out there.
Not long after this, the musician-composer/guitarist broadened his horizons by diving into television, becoming a cast member on MTV’s reality show “The Osbournes,” which portrayed the genuine life of his family. This series made the entire Osbourne clan seem like an extension of our own families – A feeling that persisted throughout his life, as both his solo and Black Sabbath songs remained popular even after he stopped producing new music.
