Ozzy Osbourne ‘could return to the stage but with a twist’ – despite playing his last ever live show

Reports suggest that Ozzy Osbourne might make a comeback to the stage, but there’s a new element expected this time around.

On the weekend just passed, Ozzy Osbourne, the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath who is now 76 years old, played his last concert at Birmingham’s Villa Park. This marked a special reunion with his fellow band members.

In recent times, Ozzy has been candid about his health, having gone through seven surgeries over the last five years. Among these were a fourth spine surgery, which he underwent in the year 2023.

The legendary band consisting of Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, and Ozzy is reported to have registered their name for use in the realm of virtual reality.

This method enables Black Sabbath to transmit their performances digitally, making it possible for them to play concerts from great distances, even in arenas that are thousands of miles away.

Similar to Oasis, certain bands have adopted comparable strategies, whereas the iconic rock group KISS has revealed virtual, “immortal” counterparts. These avatars will continue their performances once original band members can no longer tour.

The surge in initiatives featuring holographic performances by popular musicians can be attributed to the resounding success of the ABBA Voyage show in London, which managed to sell over a million tickets within its first year and has become one of the capital’s most frequented tourist destinations.

2022 saw the introduction of ABBA Voyage, a unique experience featuring digital versions of Bjorn Ulvaeus, Agnetha Faltskog, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, and Benny Andersson. These holograms perform beloved songs like “Dancing Queen” and “Waterloo” for the audience.

On Saturday evening, Ozzy concluded his last-ever live show at Birmingham’s Villa Park Stadium, expressing heartfelt sentiments.

He reconnected with his Black Sabbath band members for what turned out to be their initial performance together in their original setup since 2005, also marking their last concert as a group.

In a heartfelt farewell, the heavy metal vocalist shared profound thoughts during the final act of the concert, which took place at Villa Park – a venue with special significance being his birthplace, Birmingham, where iconic band Black Sabbath first emerged about 56 years back.

At the end of our last performance together as a band, Ozzy remarked, “This is our final song. Your unwavering support has allowed us to lead an extraordinary life; we are deeply grateful from the very depths of ours.

The screen displayed a message: ‘Thanks for everything, you’re absolutely fantastic. Long Live Birmingham, as the sky burst into fireworks.’

In simpler terms, the last show by the band left the lead singer, Ozzy, feeling incredibly moved, as he expressed heartfelt gratitude numerous times to the audience for their unwavering encouragement throughout his half-century career in the music world.

Earlier, Ozzy had expressed doubts about whether he would be standing or seated during his performance due to his spinal surgeries. However, he made a grand entrance onto the stage, arriving in a large, black quilted chair with a massive bat atop it.
