Owl House creator Dana Terrace asks people to unsubscribe Disney+

Dana Terrace, the creator of the animated show The Owl House, has spoken out against Disney’s plan to let users create and share AI-generated content on Disney+. After Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the new feature during an earnings call, Terrace encouraged viewers to cancel their subscriptions as a protest.

Terrace voiced her disapproval of the company’s shift towards using AI to create content in a series of posts on X, formerly known as Twitter. She shared articles about the announcement and expressed worry about the change. In one post, she dramatically urged people to “PICK UP A PENCIL OR DIE.”

In a separate post, she pointed out that users are already capable of creating and sharing their own content without needing the platform’s permission. She strongly criticized the company, stating that they would essentially take ownership of user-created content if paid, and used harsh language to denounce CEO Bob Iger and others, calling them exploitative.

Terrace took her protest a step further, urging people to cancel their Disney+ subscriptions and even suggesting they illegally download The Owl House. She expressed her frustration with generative AI, stating, “Pirate Owl House. I don’t care. F— gen AI.”

Disney’s new feature is a significant technological advancement for the platform, enabling users to create and share content directly on Disney+. Bob Iger called it the most substantial update since the service launched in 2019. However, the announcement quickly faced backlash, including criticism from Terrace, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
