Owen Cooper, 16, celebrates his record breaking Critics Choice Awards win by snapping selfies with his favourite A-list actors Timothee Chalamet and Adam Sandler

Owen Cooper had a fantastic night at the Critics Choice Awards, taking home a history-making award and enjoying the company of many famous stars.

A teenager from Warrington has gained attention in Hollywood for his impressive role in the popular 2025 Netflix drama, Adolescence.

Owen recently made his acting debut and has already received several major award nominations. He turned one of those nominations into a win on Sunday at the Critics Choice Awards in Santa Monica, an event filled with famous faces.

Owen attended the ceremony with his parents and fellow actors from the show Adolescence. As soon as he got inside the Barker Hangar, though, he quickly went to find some of the actors he admired.

The up-and-coming actor was seen chatting excitedly with fellow winner Timothée Chalamet. Owen happily shared a selfie with the star of ‘Marty Supreme’ on his Instagram account.

Owen, looking sharp in a brown leather jacket and white shirt, shared a photo with comedy icon Adam Sandler, affectionately calling him ‘my man’ in the caption.

Jacob Elordi, Noah Schnapps and Michael B Jordan also all made his Instagram Stories.

Owen posted pictures of his award ceremony moment, celebrating his Best Supporting Actor win and expressing his gratitude with a simple, ‘Thank you, Critics Choice, God bless.’

Adolescence cleaned up once again as awards season kicked off on Sunday night.

The popular Netflix series added four more Emmys to its collection – bringing its 2025 total to twelve – with wins for Owen, Stephen Graham, and Erin Doherty in individual acting categories, as well as being named Best Limited Series.

The online series ‘Adolescence,’ which follows a teen accused of murder after getting involved with ‘incel’ communities, has been hugely popular, averaging 45 million views each month. It’s become essential viewing for both parents and teenagers globally.

At just 16 years old, Owen has already achieved a remarkable feat: he’s the youngest male to ever win an Emmy Award, and he’s now added a Critics Choice Award to his list of accomplishments.

Owen, the star of the new Wuthering Heights film, won the award for Best Supporting Actor, surpassing his fellow cast member Ashley Walters, age 43.

His co-stars Stephen won in the Best Actor category, while Best Supporting Actress went to Erin.

Owen was prepared for his acceptance speech as he brought out a handwritten letter on stage.

Owen thanked the critics and the entire team who worked behind the scenes to make the event happen as he accepted his award.

The last year has been incredibly busy and transformative for my family and me. It’s changed our lives in a profound way, and we are deeply thankful for every experience we’ve shared.

Owen won against strong competition from actors including Wagner Moura (Dope Thief), Nick Offerman (Death by Lightning), Michael Peña (All Her Fault), Ashley Walters (Adolescence), and Ramy Youssef (Mountainhead).

Stephen started his acceptance speech by thanking the entire cast and crew, explaining that he couldn’t have achieved this without their contributions.

We all share the same fundamental worth. My mother always taught me that no one is better or worse than another, and that idea really guided our work on this project and ultimately contributed to its success.

Oh my gosh, he said it was a truly unique experience, which, duh, everything he does is! But then… then he told everyone with kids to just hold them tight and tell them they love them! I almost burst into tears, it was so sweet! It just… it really got to me, you know? Like, he’s not just a performer, he’s a person who cares, and it was so touching. I immediately ran and hugged my little sister! It was perfect.

Coming up next is the Golden Globe Awards this weekend, where the show ‘Adolescence’ has received five nominations.
