Owen Cooper, 15, joins his parents in the smoking area after scooping gong for Best Supporting Actor and making history as the youngest male Emmy winner ever for Netflix’s Adolescence

Owen Cooper celebrated his historic Emmy win – becoming the youngest person ever to receive the award – by joining his parents in the smoking area on Sunday night.

The 15-year-old actor, who became well-known earlier this year for his role in the Netflix series *Adolescence*, received the award for Best Supporting Actor at this year’s event.

Adolescence cleaned up at the awards too, walking away with eight gongs in total.

Owen’s parents, Andy and Noreen Cooper, were there to cheer him on during what was currently the most important night of his career.

A recent video shows him meeting up with the group in the smoking area and staying with them until the end of the night.

Owen’s mother, Noreen, looked stunning in a red dress and was seen smoking a cigarette, while his father, Andy, also had one lit.

The three of them were chatting happily with someone else at the event, and Owen continued to hold onto the box with his trophy inside.

Oh my gosh, you guys, it was incredible! Owen totally deserved that standing ovation when he walked on stage! And Sydney Sweeney *gave* him the award – Sydney Sweeney! – and then she HUGGED him! He beat out Javier Bardem and all these other amazing actors, and it was just… everything. I seriously almost died. He’s just the best, and I knew he’d win!

Okay, so I’m completely obsessed with this series called ‘Adolescence,’ and it’s just…intense. It’s about this boy who gets caught up in this really dark online world – the ‘incel’ culture – and then gets accused of murder. Honestly, it’s been HUGE – like, 45 million people are watching it *every month*! Everyone’s talking about it, and it’s become essential viewing for parents and teens – seriously, if you want to understand what’s going on with kids online, you *need* to watch this.

When Owen accepted his award, he shared how surprised he was. He explained that just a couple of years ago, when he began taking drama classes, he never imagined he’d even be in the United States, let alone receiving an award.

Although this award has my name on it, the real credit goes to the entire crew, Stephen, and all of the actors.

He added that tonight showed anyone can achieve their goals if they listen, stay focused, and are willing to try new things.

Owen reflected on his own journey, noting that he hadn’t achieved much just three years prior, but now he was where he wanted to be. He encouraged listeners to embrace discomfort and take risks, suggesting that a little embarrassment is a small price to pay for growth if they truly focus and listen.

Owen has now landed back in the UK as he returns to school to continues his studies for his GCSEs.

He was given one week off by his headteacher to fly out to Los Angeles for the awards.

Adolescence received a total of eight wins and 13 nominations.

Star Stephen Graham won in the acting and writing categories, the latter alongside Jack Thorne.

Erin Doherty won the award for Best Supporting Actress. The show also received two awards beforehand for its cinematography and casting.

Philip Barantini won the award for directing a limited series, anthology series, or movie.

Elizabeth Banks, while presenting, jokingly referred to Barantini as ‘the one-r,’ a reference to the show’s impressive single-take filming technique which really grabbed audiences’ attention.

She cleverly pointed out he was the sole male nominee in the category, then announced him as the winner when she opened the envelope.

Stephen Graham had a very successful night, winning Best Actor for his portrayal of Eddie Miller, Jamie’s father. He also shared the award for Best Writing with Jack Thorne and accepted the Best Series award on behalf of everyone involved in the show.

When accepting his award, he shared how incredibly humbling it was to be recognized by his fellow actors, especially considering he grew up as a mixed-race kid in an apartment building. He expressed that being there was a deeply moving experience.
