Blizzard Entertainment announced that the Overwatch World Cup 2026 will be held at BlizzCon 2026 on September 12th and 13th in Anaheim, California.
As of today, details about the tournament are limited to the fact that it will take place at next year’s BlizzCon. The game’s official X account has promised to share more information soon.
Besides the Overwatch 2 tournament, BlizzCon 2026 will host esports competitions for World of Warcraft (including Mythic Dungeon International and Arena World Championship), Hearthstone, and classic Blizzard games like Warcraft, StarCraft, and Heroes of the Storm in a new event called the Blizzard Classic Cup.
Overwatch esports history
In 2023, the Overwatch World Cup was hosted in the United States, and the Overwatch League’s championship tournament was held in Canada. Then, in 2024, the first-ever Overwatch Champion Series World Finals took place in Sweden.
Two major Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) events were held in 2025. The Midseason Championship took place in Saudi Arabia as part of the Esports World Cup (EWC), and the Champions Clash tournament was hosted in China.
The Overwatch World Cup will return to North America in 2026, taking place at BlizzCon and uniting esports enthusiasts.
OWCS, OWL, and Overwatch 2 esports
In early 2024, Blizzard Entertainment teamed up with ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) to create the Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS), replacing the Overwatch League (OWL). This collaboration resulted in OWCS competitions throughout 2024 and is planned to continue into 2025.
The first Overwatch World Cup (OWCS) World Finals were held at DreamHack Stockholm in 2024, and the event will return to the same location later this month. While the 2026 World Cup is still a ways off, fans can look forward to plenty of exciting esports competition in the meantime.
