How do overwatch ranks work? Here’s our updated guide to Overwatch’s ranked system for 2026.
I’m a big Overwatch player, and I’ve always been curious about how the ranked system really works. So, I dug into everything – all the different ranks you can climb to, how the whole system is set up, and everything else you need to know. I’m sharing what I learned in this guide!
Overwatch ranks in order
- Bronze (Divisions 5 to 1)
- Silver (Divisions 5 to 1)
- Gold (Divisions 5 to 1)
- Platinum (Divisions 5 to 1)
- Diamond (Divisions 5 to 1)
- Master (Divisions 5 to 1)
- Grandmaster (Divisions 5 to 1)
- Champion (Divisions 5 to 1)
- Top 500 Challenger (Regional)
Overwatch ranking system explained
Overwatch uses a ranking system with nine tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, Grandmaster, Champion, and Top 500 Challenger. The Top 500 Challenger rank is reserved for the very best players in your region. These ranking levels are often called “skill tiers.”
Ranks are divided into five tiers, numbered from 1 to 5. Lower numbers indicate higher skill – for example, a Platinum 1 player is ranked above a Platinum 5 player. Bronze 5 represents the very lowest possible rank.
Overwatch SR explained
- Bronze: Less than 1,499 SR
- Silver: 1,500 SR to 1,999 SR
- Gold: 2,000 SR to 2,499 SR
- Platinum: 2,500 SR to 2,999 SR
- Diamond: 3,000 SR to 3,499 SR
- Master: 3,500 SR to 3,999 SR
- Grandmaster: 4,000 SR to 4,499 SR
- Champion: 4,500 SR to 5,000 SR
In Overwatch, your skill level is shown by your Skill Rating, or SR. Players with less than 1,499 SR are considered Bronze, while the highest-ranked players typically have between 4,500 and 5,000 SR. Sometimes, the game will slightly adjust your SR as part of a soft reset.

Overwatch ranked rewards and skins
Overwatch’s competitive ranked mode offers rewards like unique player icons, titles that change with each season, and cosmetic items for your weapons. This year’s special reward is the Crimson Wolf weapon skin, which you’ll earn by reaching Diamond rank or higher in either the Role Queue or Open Queue modes – and it comes as a Doomfist skin!
You can still earn older weapon skins like Galactic, Gold, and Jade, but you’ll need Legacy Competitive Points to get them.
Overwatch Competitive Points
- 10 for a win
- 5 for a draw
- 0 for a loss
Competitive Points are rewards you get in the game for playing ranked matches. You’ll earn 10 points for each win, 5 for a tie, but nothing for a loss.
Overwatch Top 500 Challenger leaderboard
Starting February 10th, Overwatch players can now sort the Top 500 Challenger leaderboard by their rank. Rewards for this top tier are determined by a player’s Challenger Score, and those who qualify can earn the exclusive Conquest Top 500 Challenger player icon beginning on February 10th.
Blizzard Entertainment announced that new player icons will be released with each Ranked season reset – roughly every three seasons. Players who rank among the Top 500 in the Challenger tier during any of the first three seasons of the Rise of Talon competitive period will earn a special player icon.
Overwatch Challenger Score explained
On February 10th, Overwatch updated its scoring system to give more points to players in higher ranks. Players in Master rank now earn between 20 and 60 points for each division climbed. Grandmaster players receive between 100 and 200 points, and those in the Champion rank get the biggest rewards, earning between 250 and 700 points.
Overwatch has made some changes to its competitive ranking system. To appear in the Top 500 for both Combined Role and Open Queue, players now need 2,000 points instead of 5,000. For individual roles, the requirement has been lowered from 4,000 to 1,500 points. Plus, the maximum bonus players can earn for winning streaks (Heat Bonus) has been doubled from 40% to 100%.
