Overwatch finally welcomes Emre as a playable hero!

Great news for Overwatch fans! Blizzard has announced that Emre Sarioglu is finally joining the game as a new playable hero. If you’re wondering who Emre is and what he can do, we’ve got all the details. Keep reading to find out his release date, backstory, abilities, and what he looks like. Overwatch Emre release date

Okay, so the latest Overwatch Spotlight dropped some huge news! They officially confirmed Emre is joining the roster on February 10th! We’re getting him along with Domina, Anran, Mizuki, and even Jetpack Cat – seriously! Apparently, these five are just the first wave of ten new heroes planned for 2026. Blizzard said we can expect more heroes to drop throughout the seasons, specifically from Season 2 all the way to Season 6. I’m already starting to think about how to master them all!

Who is Emre in Overwatch?

The latest Overwatch comic, “Search & Destroy,” showed that Emre switched from Overwatch to join the villainous organization Talon. While with Talon, he carried out missions across the globe and gained a reputation for being cold, calculating, and merciless. This led Freja, a former teammate, to start looking for him.

The investigation showed Moira’s work in Burkhala wasn’t just about genetics – she had other, secret goals. Freja discovered that Mauga assisted Emre in breaking into a location in Guatemala, and that Emre and Widowmaker were working together. Emre also had a habit of going missing during Talon operations, leading Reaper to comment that he’d changed and wasn’t the man he used to be.

Freja finally figured out where Emre was and found him in Riyadh. Locals there believed Emre was a demon, but after a fight, he appeared simply as himself.

The comic also gave players a hint at Emre’s kit in Overwatch.

Overwatch Emre abilities, ultimate, subrole, perks

  • Synthetic Burst Rifle (Primary Fire): Three-round burst weapon.
  • Take Aim (Secondary Fire): Hold to zoom in, tightening accuracy and increasing falloff range.
  • Siphon Blaster (Ability): Temporarily wield a semi-automatic pistol with lifestealing explosive rounds. Move faster and jump higher while wielded.
  • Cyber Frag (Ability): Throw a grenade that detonates shortly after bouncing.
  • Override Protocol (Ultimate): Transform Emre into a living weapon.
  • Altered Vitals (Passive): Health regeneration activates sooner and instantly restores 30 health when activated.
  • Subrole: Specialist (Passive): Eliminating an enemy briefly increases Emre’s reload speed
  • Suppressive Security (Minor Perk): Override Protocol’s light rounds slow enemies by 30% for 1 second.
  • Enhanced Agility (Minor Perk): Siphon Blaster’s movement speed bonus is increased by 20% while not firing.

Emre’s abilities include the Synthetic Burst Rifle as his main weapon, and he can use ‘Take Aim’ to zoom in and improve accuracy – similar to Freja. He also has skills like ‘Siphon Blaster,’ which gives his explosive rounds lifesteal and boosts his movement speed, and ‘Cyber Frag,’ a bouncing grenade. His ultimate ability, ‘Override Protocol,’ turns him into a powerful living weapon, mirroring his comic book counterpart. Plus, his ‘Altered Vitals’ passive helps him stay alive longer.

Emre in Overwatch has several advantages, including Suppressive Security, Enhanced Agility, and Heat Sink. His kit also includes another significant perk that isn’t visible in the image. Additionally, Emre has a passive ability called “Specialist,” which gives him a temporary reload speed boost after defeating an enemy.
