Overwatch: Classic Limited-Time Event Goes Live Today With Original 6v6 Action
As a long-time fan who’s been through the epic battles of Overwatch since its inception, I can’t help but feel a rush of nostalgia at the news of Overwatch: Classic! The return to the original 6v6 format, with the classic roster and maps, is like stepping back into a time machine. It’s as if Tracer, Reinhardt, and the gang have just knocked on my door, asking for a rematch!
In a recent announcement, Blizzard has shared that they’re introducing ‘Overwatch: Classic’ in Overwatch 2. This feature allows players to step back in time and experience the original version of Overwatch as it was in 2016. With this nostalgic take on the hero shooter, you can enjoy the original roster of 21 characters along with their classic abilities and a collection of twelve maps – now adapted to fit the Overwatch 2 layout.
The temporary event signals a reintroduction of 6v6 gameplay, but it’s important to note that this is distinct from Blizzard’s intentions to reinstate 6v6 team-based play within Overwatch 2. This new format is slated for release in December during Season 14, and will be introduced through two trial periods.
Starting today until December 2nd, you can access Overwatch: Classic within Overwatch 2. This is available across platforms including Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. You can get a sneak peek by watching the trailer below.
