Overwatch 2 teases new Talon event in China

Overwatch 2 players in China will have access to a special, exclusive event centered around the Talon organization. Here’s a rundown of the details and what makes it interesting.

With the recent introduction of the Vendetta update, the villainous organization Talon is becoming a major focus in Overwatch 2. It looks like players in China will soon experience even more of this focus, as reports from OWCavalry and the official Overwatch 2 Weibo suggest a Talon-themed event is on the way.

On X (formerly Twitter), the account OWCavalry shared details about a Weibo post specific to China. According to the post, China will have an exclusive in-game event centered around the Talon organization on December 31st. OWCavalry also included a screenshot of the Talon logo and speculated that the event might connect to previous or ongoing storylines.

On December 29th, OWCavalry shared more details about the upcoming Overwatch 2 Talon event. The post showcased artwork of key characters including Doomfist, Widowmaker, Sombra, Maximilien, Moira, Augusto Vialli, Mauga, Baptiste, Sigma, Gabriel Reyes, and Vendetta.

Based on the revealed artwork, the upcoming Overwatch 2 Talon event seems to center around a casino, where we see Doomfist, Widowmaker, Sombra, and Maximilien. We also know Mauga and Baptiste were fighting together before Baptiste left Talon. Other glimpses show Moira on security cameras, Sigma in a lab, Augusto Vialli in a meeting, and Gabriel Reyes (before becoming Reaper) shaking hands with an unknown person. Finally, Vendetta is located in Colosseo.

Doomfist leads the organization known as Talon in Overwatch 2. Current members you can play as include Moira, Reaper, Widowmaker, Sombra, Mauga, and Sigma. Baptiste used to be a part of Talon, and Vendetta has a significant past connection to the group.

Augusto Vialli and Maximilien in Overwatch 2

Augusto Vialli and Maximilien are notable additions to the artwork because they aren’t characters you can actually play in Overwatch 2. Many players would love to see Maximilien become a playable character – he already appears in the game through Maximilien’s Vault, but only as a non-playable element. Interestingly, senior narrative designer Jude Stacey revealed in an interview with Xpsp that both Augusto Vialli and Doomfist were responsible for taking everything away from her.

Stacey believed Vendetta had always been astute enough to recognize her father, Antonio Bartalotti’s, flaws and predicted they would eventually lead to his ruin. When that prediction came true, she felt vindicated, though heartbroken. Despite her best efforts, Vialli and Doomfist intervened, stripping her of everything she’d built. She was then forced to rebuild her life and reclaim what she’d lost from scratch.

Okay, so the Overwatch 2 Talon event isn’t out yet, but I’ve been checking out the character art, and it’s already giving me some awesome ideas about what could happen. It looks like there’s going to be some really interesting stuff going on with how these characters interact, and I’m super hyped for the story possibilities!
