What’s happening in Overwatch 2’s lore now?
A new Overwatch 2 video revealed details about why Null Sector suddenly stopped attacking. The video explained that devices used to control omnics caused problems in cities such as Paris, Busan, and Rio. Sojourn mentioned that former Overwatch members, including Torbjorn, are now focused on safely disabling these devices.
It’s notable that the recent story update highlighted the irony of Sojourn now leading the rebuilt Overwatch, despite previously testifying in favor of shutting it down. To understand why, the in-game world established that the International Justice Commission and the United Nations passed a law called the Petras Act, which made Overwatch’s operations illegal. Sojourn’s earlier statements about her time with the organization actually contributed to the passage of this law.
During a recent lore reveal, a reporter asked if Overwatch would be shut down again if the International Judicial Council requested it.
Sojourn explained that the Overwatch agents who fought against Null Sector acted because they wanted to help when the world needed them, and that’s why she joined the fight too. She understands that once the International Crisis Committee decides the world is safe, her services won’t be required, and she’ll gladly step down knowing she did everything she could.
