According to the updates released halfway through the season, there will be a trial run for a team-based game mode called 6v6 Open Queue. This was confirmed by Aaron Keller, the director of Overwatch 2, in a recent post. He also mentioned that the current 6v6 Role Queue gameplay in Overwatch 2 will remain active until the mid-season update arrives.
Keller announced that the 6v6 playtest will continue beyond its original date due to ongoing player enthusiasm and enjoyment of this mode. Starting January 7th, the 6v6 gameplay card will be shifted to the Arcade section. It will stay there until the midseason, after which it will transform into a 6v6 Open Queue format with a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 players.
