Overwatch 2 Season 12 gets soft rank reset
As a seasoned Overwatch 2 gamer with countless hours spent honing my skills and climbing the ranks, I must admit that I have mixed feelings about the upcoming soft rank reset in Season 12. On one hand, I’ve always dreamt of reaching the elusive Champion 1 rank, but on the other, it seemed almost impossible to achieve due to its rarity.
“Our aim was for the title ‘Champion’ to represent great distinction, however, it turned out that reaching ‘Champion 1’ was nearly unattainable.”
In the upcoming Season 12 of Overwatch 2, there will be a gentle refresh of the ranking system. Here’s what you need to know about the changes in the ranked mode for the new season.

Overwatch 2 Season 12 rank reset explained
In the beginning of Overwatch 2’s Season 12, there will be a gentle adjustment to player ranks, much like what occurred in Season 9. This means that your rank will gradually decrease, resulting in most players’ ranks being more similar to the general average.
As mentioned by Overwatch 2 systems designer Gavin Winter, this method corresponds to significant gameplay changes, including the debut of the Clash game mode, fine-tuning adjustments, and other enhancements. Moreover, he emphasized that rank resets are the unique instances when the Overwatch 2 team can reestablish rank thresholds.

Overwatch 2 reveals Champion 1 rank details
Later on, Winter elucidated certain facts concerning the Champion tier, implying that reaching Champion Level 1 was nearly unattainable for most players.
He mentioned that the titles “Champion”, “Grandmaster”, and “Master” had fewer participants than expected, so we’ve adjusted the proportion of top-tier rankings. Moreover, there were still more players at the bottom ranks, which required some adjustments as well.
Regarding predictions for Overwatch 2 Season 12, a soft rank reset will provide an opportunity for both the least skilled and most skilled players to attain higher levels of play.
He stated that following the reset, both our top and bottom-ranked players are likely to reach unprecedented levels of success. The unique blend of strategies applied during the reset creates a platform for each player to demonstrate their capabilities and potentially surpass their highest rank ever achieved.

More ranked updates
Regarding additional news, Winter unveiled the concept of Competitive Drives in Overwatch 2. These activities are scheduled to commence towards the conclusion of a season, spanning over a weekend. The Competitive Drive events offer enticing rewards like Competitive Points and the brand-new Competitive Signatures.
Regarding sequential updates in the game, players can expect the following changes: Instead of being stuck with 15 teams simultaneously, they will soon have the option to play alone or choose fewer teammates. The Group Respawn feature will be replaced by Wave Respawn. Additionally, spawn exits in Flashpoint mode will provide a speed boost upon use.
