The 6v6 playtest for Overwatch 2, season 14, using the 2-2-2 format, has been prolonged up until the mid-season adjustments!
The fourteenth season of Overwatch 2 is in full swing, and it brings fantastic news for fans of six-versus-six (6v6) battles. Indeed, the 6v6 Role Queue game mode in Overwatch 2 has been prolonged until the mid-season update! Here’s what you need to know.

Overwatch 2 6v6 game mode extended in 2025
Initially, Overwatch 2 matches were played in teams of six using a 2-2-2 format from Dec. 17 to Jan. 6. But before it ended, game director Aaron Keller announced that the playtest would continue until the mid-season update because players kept showing their enthusiasm for the game.
Instead of finding the game mode in the Unranked section of Overwatch 2, you can now locate it in the Arcade area. Just navigate to the main menu, pick “Arcade,” and then opt for the “6v6 Role Queue” option to join the action.

How Overwatch 2 6v6 Role Queue works
To clarify, during the 6v6 Role Queue test, teams will follow the 2-2-2 arrangement. In essence, this calls for having two defensive (tank) characters, two offensive (damage) characters, and two supportive (healer or utility) characters on each team.

When does Overwatch 2 6v6 end?
Following the mid-season update, this specific playtest concludes. Then, players will participate in a 6 versus 6 Open Queue test, which follows the Minimum 1, Maximum 3 format.
Keller stated back in October 2024 that there are several unique team configurations you can experiment with in Overwatch 2, as these combinations haven’t been seen before. He also mentioned that players will have the ability to change roles dynamically during a game, provided that this swap doesn’t exceed the ‘Minimum 1, Maximum 3’ role limit.
