Overwatch 2 is Bringing Back Loot Boxes and Adding Perks For Season 15 Next Week

It’s been announced that 2025 is set to be a pivotal year for the game Overwatch 2, as Season 15 kicks off next week, bringing about several updates such as the comeback of loot boxes. Yippee!

These upcoming enhancements are a part of an effort to transform Overwatch 2 into “the premier competitive team-based shooter featuring heroes,” which is quite a challenge given the tough competition from Marvel Rivals. This involves numerous “key gameplay improvements” that introduce unique hero abilities and strategic options through new Perks. As stated by Blizzard, it represents “the most substantial change to core gameplay since Overwatch was initially released in 2016.

In addition to Hero Bans and Map Voting, there will be a new 2025 Competitive Season, as well as the debut of ‘Stadium’, the largest solo Overwatch mode ever. For Season 16, Freja, the 43rd hero, will join the game. She is a bounty hunter equipped with a swift-firing Revdraw Crossbow, a Quick Dash ability that moves in multiple directions, an explosive Bola Shot, and the capacity to rise into the air on gusts of wind using Updraft.

During Season 15, Freja will offer a complimentary trial. In Season 18, we’ll introduce hero number 44, who goes by the codename Aqua, a Chinese hero with water-controlling powers. Regarding loot boxes, they’ll reappear as before, offering cosmetic items. You can obtain them through weekly and event rewards. Additionally, you’ll receive both Legendary Loot Boxes via the Free Battle Pass (you get one with the basic version) and two more with the Premium Battle Pass.

In simpler terms, when opening a standard loot box, the probability of getting a Legendary cosmetic is 5.10%, an Epic is 21.93%, a Rare item is 96.26% likely, while there’s a 97.97% chance you’ll find a Common item. Legendary loot boxes guarantee a Legendary cosmetic. Additionally, exciting new Mythic Skins for characters like Zenyatta, Juno, D.Va, Mercy, Reaper, and Widowmaker are also in store.
