The British drama Des, originally aired in 2020, is gaining popularity again after being added to Netflix. Even though it’s been out for five years and is already available on ITVX and Disney+, the three-part series is currently third in the UK’s top 10 on Netflix.
The show features David Tennant playing Dennis Nilsen, a well-known serial killer who murdered at least twelve young men in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Even though he admitted to the crime right away when police arrested him, it was still difficult to ensure he faced consequences for his actions.

Joining David Tennant were Jason Watkins, known for The Crown, Daniel Mays from Line of Duty, and Ben Bailey Smith who appeared in Andor.
I was so thrilled when he won a National Television Award for Best Drama Performance – he totally deserved it! And then, to top it all off, he won an International Emmy for Best Actor! It was amazing to see him get recognized on such a huge scale for his incredible work.

The show received overwhelmingly positive feedback from viewers when it first aired, with many calling it one of the best shows ITV has ever made and the best drama currently on television.
The series received overwhelmingly positive reviews, earning a 90% approval rating based on 20 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
Honestly, everyone in the show was fantastic, but even among such a strong cast, David Tennant was just phenomenal as the main character! That’s what The Herald Scotland said, and I totally agree.
He’s consistently brilliant in everything he does, but this performance was exceptional. Known for playing more cheerful roles, he completely transformed into a believable and chilling villain. His portrayal of Nilsen was both remarkably normal and strangely captivating.

Radio Times also complimented Tennant’s performance, but suggested he might be exceptionally well-suited for the part – perhaps even overshadowing it.
The review highlights a truly outstanding performance from the Good Omens star, who is completely convincing and mesmerizing as Dennis Nilsen throughout the entire show.
Tennant delivers a chilling portrayal of Nilsen, grounding it in physical mannerisms without simply mimicking him. He speaks each line with a disturbing calmness, capturing Nilsen’s unsettling distance from his victims and presenting his confession of multiple murders as if it were a normal conversation.
Des is available to stream via Netflix, ITVX, and Disney+.
