According to recent reports from Deadline, Universal is planning to cash in on the popularity of games like Minecraft and the enduring affection for nostalgia among moviegoers by entrusting Bay with directing and producing a cinematic take on Sega’s 1986 racing game, Outrun.

Accompanying the journey will be, a perfect representation of the type of glamorous blonde character that adorned the cover of the video game upon its debut. Toru Nakahara is set to produce for Sega, with Shuji Utsumi, president/COO of Sega Corporation, overseeing the project on their behalf. Jayson Rothwell, known for his work on Polar and Arachnid, is writing the script; however, the plot details remain a secret.
